| I FOUND THIS ONE AT THE SAME ANTIQUE FLEA MARKET AS MY PHILCO 50-T-1403. AS FOUND, THE SET HAD A BRIGHTNER ON THE CRT. WHEN I SOFT STARTED IT, I HAD ONLY ABOUT 15 VOLTS ON THE B+, INSTEAD OF THE 265 VOLTS THE PRINT CALLED FOR. ALSO, ONE OF THE ELECTROLYTIC CANS WAS WARM, NOT A GOOD SIGN. I DID A FULL RECAP. I WAS REWARDED WITH A BLANK RASTER AND NO SOUND. THIS SET USES A PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD, WHICH WOULD EVENTUALLY DRIVE ME NUTS. WHEN THIS ONE WARMS UP, SOUND AND PICTURE DON'T COME UP RIGHT AWAY. WHEN IT DOES, IT IS VERY WATCHABLE. THE PICTURE ISN'T THAT GREAT, BUT IT ISN'T HORRIBLE. I THINK THE CRT HAS SEEN BETTER DAYS. I FORGOT TO GET PICS OF THE CHASSIS BEFORE RESTORATION, BUT I WILL OPEN IT UP AND GET SOME AFTER SHOTS. THE TUNER KNOB IS MISSING. I TUNED THIS SET TO CHANNEL 10, COLUMBUS. THIS WAS A CBS-ONLY SET. AS OF NOW, IT IS TUNED TO CHANNEL THREE FOR THE IN-HOUSE CABLE SYSTEM. THE CHASSIS IS NOT THE MOST SERVICE FRIENDLY ONE. I HAD TO REMOVE THE PC BOARD TO REPLACE CAPS. THE TUNER WAS A BEAR TO CLEAN, BUT IT IS FAIRLY SENSITIVE. A COLLECTOR TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT ONE OF SYLVANIA'S BETTER SETS. I AGREE. THIS ONE RUNS HOT, DUE TO POOR VENTILATION. OVERALL, IT'S A KEEPER. |

| THIS CHASSIS, IN MY OPINION, IS A POOR DESIGN. THE PC BOARD GETS COOKED AS THE SET RUNS. THE HEAT FROM THE SWEEP TUBES AND CRT JUST REAK HAVOC. DURING RESTORATION, I ENDED UP HAVING TO RESOLDER MORE JOINTS THAN I CARE TO COUNT. I THINK I WILL HAVE TO EVENTUALLY REPLACE A FEW TUBE SOCKETS. THE PICTURE FLICKERS IN AND OUT, BUT TAPPING IT WILL BRING THE PIC BACK. THE CABINET IS ALSO VERY POORLY VENTILATED. ALL CHASSIS SHOTS ARE AFTER RECAP. I FORGOT TO GET PICS BEFORE. | ||||||||||||
