ANOTHER CHASSIS SHOT.  MOST OF THE SWEEP BOARD IS ACCESSIBLE FROM THIS SIDE.  PHILCO WAS NOTORIOUS FOR NOT MAKING THE FOIL SIDE OF THE CHASSIS ACCESSIBLE.  THE PREDICTA WAS THE BIGGEST OFFENDER.  THIS CHASSIS SITS VERTICALLY IN THE CABINET.  I DID NOT SEE ANY PAPER CAPS IN THE I-F BOARD.  I MAY GET LUCKY AND NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE SWEEP BOARD FOR RECAPPING.
I DECIDED TO PUT THE LEGS ON.  PHILCO DID NOT INTEND THIS SET TO BE USED AS A TABLETOP.  IT SITS ATOP MY ADMIRAL COLOR SET.  I KNEW JUNK MAIL WAS GOOD FOR SOMETHING, LIKE PROTECTING THE TOP OF THE ADMIRAL.  THE CABINET CLEANED UP NICELY.

  THE PIC BELOW SHOWS COUPLATES.  THESE ARE COMPONENT COMBINATIONS NOT UNLIKE TODAY'S IC CHIPS.  IN THESE SETS, MOST ARE BAD.  I HAVE TO REBUILD ALL COUPLATES IN THE SWEEP SECTION.  COMPONENT VALUE IS CRITICAL AND UNFORGIVING.  IN MANY CASES, YOUR SERVICE MANUAL WILL GIVE YOU THE EQUIVILENT CIRCUIT.  ALL YOU NEED IS SOME PERFBOARD AND THE CORRECT VALUE PARTS.  I WILL ADD A SECTION ON COUPLATES TO THE TECH SECTION SOON.

JAN 2008 UPDATE:  I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THE VERTICAL HEIGHT AND LINEARITY CONTROLS ARE BAD.  THIS SET CAME OUT THE SAME TIME THE PREDICTA DID.  THEY WERE NOTORIOUS.  I SEE DIFFERENCES IN THE COMPONENTS AS OPPOSED TO THE PRINT.  I WILL CONSULT SOME PHILCO EXPERTS.  AFTER THAT, I CAN PROCEED.
1 MAY 2008 UPDATE:  I PULLED THE CHASSIS AGAIN.  WHEN I REBUILT THE COUPLATES, I MADE THE SAME MISTAKE I DID WITH MY HALLICRAFTERS.  I USED PERF BOARD WITH FOIL TRACES.  I WILL REBUILD THEM WITH NON FOIL BOARD.  I WILL HAVE TO PULL THE SWEEP BOARD TO DO THIS RIGHT.  JUST LIKE THE PREDICTA, THIS IS NOT FOR THE BEGINNER.  IT'S GOING TO BE A MOTHER TO FIX.  I STILL NEED A FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL.  I THINK THE SAMS IS WRONG IDENTIFYING SOME PARTS.  AS SOON AS I KNOW MORE, I'LL PROCEED.
