| I FOUND THIS AT THE SAME ANTIQUE STORE IN COLUMBUS, OHIO THAT I FOUND MY GE 810, MY PHILCO CONSOLETTE, PHILCO TRANSITONE AND ONE OF MY RCA 8 INCHERS. I HAD ORIGINALLY TRIED TO AVOID GETTING GE SETS BECAUSE I HAVE HAD HORRIBLE LUCK WITH THEM. GE WAS A MAJOR AMERICAN MANUFACTURER. I THOUGHT I'D GIVE GE ANOTHER CHANCE. MAYBE THE 50'S ERA TUBE SETS WERE WORTH A DAMN. THEIR LATER TUBE SETS AND SOLID STATE SETS WERE TOTAL SHIT (MY OPINION ONLY). THIS SET IS UNRESTORED AND UNTESTED. I WILL EVENTUALLY CHECK THE CRT. THIS IS A VERY LOW PRIORITY FOR ME. I HAVE 3 SETS IN DIFFERING STAGES OF PROGRESS (OR LACK OF) RIGHT NOW. RCA, ZENITH AND PHILCO ALWAYS COME FIRST. ANOTHER COLLECTOR HAS ONE SIMILAR TO THIS AND REPORTED ON HIS WEBSITE THAT IT ISN'T THE GREATEST PERFORMER. I'LL WAIT AND SEE. FOR NOW, IT SITS AND COLLECTS DUST. I RECIEVED AN EMAIL FROM ANOTHER THAT HAS ONE (NOT OPERATIONAL) WHO ALSO SAID HIS WAS NOT THE BEST PERFORMER. 26 FEB 2006 UPDATE: THE CRT IS GOOD. IT CAME UP AFTER ABOUT 20 MINUTES ON RAISED HEATER VOLTAGE AND STOOD THERE AFTER I REDUCED TO SIX. THIS SET WAS NOT WELL BUILT. GE CHEAPED OUT. IN THE SAME EMAIL, THE WRITER ALSO SAID THE PRINTED CIRCUIT BOARD WAS PRONE TO CRYSTALLIZATION OF THE COPPER. THERE IS NO FIX FOR IT. I WILL GET SOME PICS OF THE CHASSIS. SINCE THIS IS A HOT CHASSIS SET, I WILL MODIFY IT TO MAKE IT SAFE. THE CRT THIS SET USES IS UNIQUE TO IT. THE HV COMES IN THROUGH THE SOCKET, AS OPPOSED TO THE ULTOR BUTTON FOUND ON MOST OTHER CRT'S. I WON'T BE DOING THIS ONE ANYTIME SOON. IT LOOKS LIKE IT SHOULD BE A VERY EASY RESTORATION. IT IS NOT AT MY CURRENT LOCATION. |
