JUST AS I THOUGHT I HAD THIS THING FIXED, A SMALL PROBLEM CROPPED UP.  THE CAP CIRCLED IN WHITE GAVE ME PROBLEMS.  AS I WAS MAKING ADJUSTMENTS, I LOST HIGH VOLTAGE AND THE DAMPER (12AX4) WAS GLOWING RED.  I THOUGHT SHIT, AS IN BAD FLYBACK.  AFTER REMOVING THE CRT, I FOUND THAT THIS CAP WAS NOT IN A GOOD LOCATION.  I MOVED IT TO WHERE THE RED MARK IS.  THE SET WORKED AGAIN, AFTER A NEW 12AX4 WAS INSTALLED.
IT TURNED OUT THAT THE BOOST VOLTAGE HAD SHORTED TO GROUND THROUGH THE CAP HIGHLIGHTED IN WHITE..  THE SET NOW WORKS AGAIN AND THE CAP WAS NOT DESTROYED.

  AS FOR THE HOT CHASSIS PROBLEM, ONE SIDE OF THE LINE CORD IS GROUNDED DIRECTLY TO THE CHASSIS, SO ALL I WILL HAVE TO DO IS POLARIZE THE PLUG.

  I WILL RUN THE SET FOR A FEW DAYS AND SEE IF SOMETHING ELSE SCREWS UP.  AT THAT TIME, I WILL CLEAN THE CABINET.  IF ALL GOES WELL, I WILL REASSEMBLE THIS SET AND CALL IT DONE.

  I REASSEMBLED THE SET, MINUS THE SAFETY GLASS (I WILL ATTEMPT TO REPAIR IT).   I REPLACED THE MISSING MOUNTING FEET WITH SOME FROM A HOME IMPROVEMENT STORE.  THE TWO IN BACK WERE LEFT ALONE.  HERE ARE TWO SHOTS OF THE NOW FINISHED SET.
12 OCT 2007 UPDATE:  THE CRT IS GOING BAD.  I THINK IT'S GETTING GASSY.  I WILL LOOK FOR A REPLACEMENT.  THEN AGAIN, I MAY JUST NEED TO ADJUST THE FOCUS.  GASSY TUBES CAN HAVE POOR FOCUS.  I WILL DO SOME EXPERIMENTING EVENTUALLY.  THE PIC IS STILL NICE AND BRIGHT. 

14 FEB 2008 UPDATE:  THE SAMS GAVE THE OPTION OF TYING THE FOCUS GRID IN THE CRT TO GROUND OR TO BOOST VOLTAGE.  IT WAS, BY DEFAULT TIED TO BOOST.  I TRIED ANOTHER 1B3 (HV RECTIFIER).  AFTER BACKING OFF THE BRIGHTNESS AND CONTRAST, I NOW HAVE A FOCUSED AND VIEWABLE PICTURE.  THE CRT MAY NOT BE TOAST AFTER ALL.  THE PICTURE ISN'T AS BRIGHT AS I WOULD LIKE, BUT IT WILL DO FOR NOW.
