Possible Base Locations
All right. This map covers about as much territory as would be wise to cover when searching for a secret base. For judging distance, keep in mind that to get from Lansing to Charlotte would be about an hour.

A brief run down on the areas, starting with the top of the map. (I'm not going to talk about Lansing, East Lansing, or Okemos, as they're too populated for our needs.

Dewitt: Rural community, but slowly turning into subdivisions. Near the Lansing Airport, but some of the police are less than desirable.

Bath (east of Gunnisonville on the map) : Small rural community. Not much development outside of their downtown. Drawbacks? That's where Misraim's pit was. Also supposed to have a high percentage of hauntings, due to the Bath School disaster.  Plus: We'd fit right in.

Lainsburg: Rural community. Small downtown, with large rural landmasses. Perhaps too far from East Lansing (1 hour when the weather is good).

Near Shaftsburg lies the Rose Lake wildlife sanctuary. With walking trails for the public, and a MSU research station, it covers a significant chunk of land.  A gun range is nearby.  This would be my second choice of area for the base.

Haslett is a possibility.  It has some well-developed parts, but east of their downtown area it quickly becomes isolated and rural.

Williamston is my choice (I've found aprime location, which I will present later.) Small downtown right on Grand River, most of the businesses ddeal with antiques. Once out of town, the land is rural.

Mason is a small-town, but some of the land outside of town could be used for our needs.

Holt has been developed into subdivisions and upscale communities.  Not a good location for us.

On the west side, the only candidate I would advance would be Grand Ledge. Small historic downtown, with plenty or rural land just outside of town. Drawback? Along the river (Grand River) run sandstone ledges. A extensive tunnel system is said to be located in them.  They're pretty, but it makes me nervous.
My Choice:
     1640 Germany Rd.
     Williamston, MI

About 25 minutes from the MSU campus, and 5-10 minutes from downtown Williamston, this location is in a rural setting.  This particular location is heavily forested along the road, with a winding drive leading to the interior of the land.
The proposed land is on the south side of the road. Across the street is a gravel pit.  Down the street about 2-3 miles is a shooting range. There are primarily farmhouses along this road, but there are a few small houses along its length. I'm including an aerial photo from 1992, and a topographic map. The land I want is below the marker, and to the right a little.  I'm thinking that the stream would be our eastern border. After all, running water could be a good thing!
