| This record has so much good material that its a shame the production is so shoddy. Songwise, its probably metallicas most sophisticated album, exploring themes of justice and perversions thereof with a vengeance. 'One' is one of their best songs ever, building from a slow, edgy beginning into effortless overdrive. The title track is amazing and is never boring, despite clocking in at over 9 minutes. Its the epic of the album, but all the songs are long, displaying impressive chops and songwriting. Metallica took a commercial turn after ...and justice for all, and its interesting to speculate on what their music would have sounded like had they continued in the direction suggested by this album. look out for 'one' and 'harvester of sorrow' very recommended |
