Sports teams at JMS seem to be a thing of the past but students today would like them to reappear! All of the students asked, wanted at least one sport to play whether it be football, cheerleading, or softball.

Eighth grader AJ Jordan said" We should have soccer because it's fun and cool and no one else can beat me. My alternative would be weightlifting."

"I want basketball, softball, and volleyball because they are fun and both girls and guys can play," said sixth grader Ellis Pickens.

Today, sports seem to be something everyone wants to do. Girls and boys alike want to get down and dirty playing football or yell really loud to root for there teams. Some even want to be dancers.

So why are there no sports? There may be several different reasons. Not enough commitment from the community, little teacher support due to lack of time and money, or maybe because there are no after school busses. We have a problem, but no solution seems to be in sight, until recently

Mr. Tye Kuehner, eighth grade Social Studies teacher, may be starting a new trend. He has volunteered to sponsor a JMS Basketball team without compensation for the extra time it will take.

When asked his reason for volunteering to be the basketball team coach he stated, "Some of these kids need direction."

Students it is also your responsibility to try to get sports teams started. You have to show interest and talk to teachers about it because even if you think it, teachers cannot read minds. Go ask a teacher if you want something because now is the time and maybe if you have enough interested they will help you!
