You have this assignment to do for one class; you have these assignments for another class, and a couple essays and articles here and there. Yes this is your nightly homework task, scary huh? It seems to students that they are getting overloaded with school work.

"Scary? How about frightening? Homework scares me to death!" said eighth grader Shane Burkes in a frightened voice.

Why are students these days getting so much to do as a nightly assignment? It seems wrong that the students are getting overloaded with homework. There are some students who agree with each other in saying that they HATE HOMEWORK.

Victoria Bublitz says, "I think homework can help me better understand what the teacher is teaching us in class although I don't like the amount I have."

So there are some students who do agree with homework but it all comes back to the issue of amount. Is it because the teachers have so much information to teach in such a little time or is it really because teachers don't like their students.

High school teacher Beverly Baird says, "Homework helps to have students practice the skills taught in class. It gives them the opportunity to internalize the information they were instructed on and to develop questions on information they did not understand."

Homework has been a long term issue even in our grandparents' day. No matter how often we complain it appears it will be a daily part of middle school life. The one fact that could be changed might be the amount. So voice your opinions in a positive way and maybe our teachers will lighten our homework load.
