Estel the Mischief Maker

By: WolfPyre ([email protected])

Fandom: Tolkien’s world…set pre-LOTR

Disclaimer: The characters are not mine…I am just playing with them for a while. Don’t worry, I’ll give them back later!

Rating: PG-13 (I guess…I’m not good with ratings!)

Warning: Slash E/G (but no graphic scenes)

Archive: Sure, just let me know where!

Summary: Elrond has just returned a visit to the Golden Wood and must deal with Estel’s misbehavior.

Note 1: Elrond and Glorfindel are lovers. Estel calls Glorfindel Minya Adar, which means Second Father, but has shortened it to Minya.

Note 2:  I started this fic BEFORE Minding Arwen and is not very good as the muses were just starting to wake. It also may not seem complete…that’s because the muses left before I could finish it. But I figured, why waste it, right??

Note 3: Elvish translations are at the end.

Feedback: YES! YES! YES! If only to keep the muses happy!

Elrond woke from his slumber as warm kisses trailed down his chest. He opened his eyes and looked sleepily at his lover. “‘Quel amrun Melamin.**”

Glorfindel stopped his ministrations. “‘Quel amrun.**”

“Perhaps we can make it a better morning.” Elrond kissed him tenderly as he rolled on top, pinning Glorfindel’s arms above his head.

A loud playful scream pierced the air followed by the pounding of little feet running down the hall.

Glorfindel groaned. “Perhaps not.”

“Ada! Minya! Save me!” Estel burst into the room and threw himself on the bed.

Elrond wrapped his arms around the boy. “What am I saving you from?”

“The Bed Dwarfs! They are going to eat me!”

“Are they now? And where are these Bed Dwarfs?”

Elladan and Elrohir crept into the room hunched over with their fingers extended. “Right here! We told the boy it was time to get up…”

“…But he did not listen so as punishment we get to eat him!”

“NO!” Estel giggled as his brothers hopped on the bed and started to tickle him. “Ada! Minya! Help!”

Elrond and Glorfindel each grabbed a twin and joined the battle. A few moments later four elves lay winded on the bed.

“We slayed the Bed Dwarfs!” Estel cheered as he bounced in place.

Elrond slipped an arm around his waist and pulled him down next to him. “We only helped. It was you who landed the final blow, my great warrior.” He kissed Estel and stood him up. “Now, it is almost time for the morning meal. Go and change.”

“Yes Ada.” Estel giggled and climbed over Glorfindel, pausing to give him a kiss as he did so.

The twins took his hands. “Come. We will help you.”

“Amin nowe ron n'kelaya.**” Glorfindel murmured and resumed the exploration of his lovers chest.

“ESTEL! You are dead!” Elladan shouted as he pursued his brother.

“You should not be in here smelling like that. Father would not approve!” Estel taunted as he kept the table between him and Elladan.

“It is your fault I smell like this. Wait until I get my hands on you!”

“Auta miqula orqu.**”

Elladan growled and lunged across the table, snagging Estel’s tunic. He pulled the boy across the table to the floor in front of him. “You are going to pay dearly for what you have done.”

Estel twisted in the firm grasp but failed to pull himself free. “Let go of me!” He yelled and kicked Elladan’s shin as hard as he could.

“OW!” Elladan cried out. “That is it! I am going to…”

“What is going on in here?” Glorfindel’s stern voice resonated throughout the hall.

“Elladan is trying to kill me!”

“He threw manure on me while I was tending the horses!” They answered simultaneously.

“I DID NOT!”

“YOU DID TOO!” Elladan tried to grab Estel.

Estel ducked behind Glorfindel. “DID NOT!”

“YOU ARE LYING!”

“I AM NOT!”

“YOU ARE TOO!”

“I AM NOT!”

Glorfindel rubbed at the ache in his forehead. “DINA!**” He pulled Estel around to face him. “Estel, did you throw manure onto your brother while he was tending the horses?”

“No.”

Glorfindel did not miss the catch in Estel’s voice as he had much experience dealing with the seven year old. He took Estel’s chin in his hand and looked into his eyes. “Let me rephrase my question. Did you in any fashion deposit manure on your brother while he was tending the horses?”

Estel tried to hold eye contact but lost his nerve. “Yes Minya.”

“I am going to kill you!” Elladan lunged at Estel again but was stopped by a strong hand on his shoulder.

“That is enough Elladan.”

Elladan looked over his shoulder. “Ada! I did not know you were here.”

“No, I expect not with all your yelling.”

“I am sorry Ada, but Estel…”

Elrond held up his hand. “I heard what Estel did and I will take care it.”

“With all due respect Father I wish to take care of this myself. You do not know what he has done to me and Elrohir while you were away.”

“I am well aware of the trouble Estel has caused. I have had several members of the household stop by my study this morning to complain.”

“But…”

“Elladan, I know you and your brother handled the minor punishments while I was away. However it appears your reprimands have not made an impression.” Elrond turned his steely glare on Estel. “Perhaps mine will.”

Estel paled. “Ada I…”

“You will have a chance to speak in a moment. Right now, you will apologize to your brother.”

Estel turned to Elladan. “I am sorry Elladan. I was only playing.”

Elladan knew Estel was not the least bit sorry for what he did, but he soon would be once his Father had his say. He nodded in acceptance.

Elrond turned to Glorfindel. “Would you please ask one of the servants to help Elladan clean up and then join us in the study?”

Glorfindel dipped his head. “Certainly.”

Estel watched them leave, wishing he was going with them. He yelped as Elrond grasped his ear. “Come. We have much to discuss.”

~~~
Elrond deposited Estel in front of his desk and took his seat. Glorfindel entered the study moments later, took his customary position to Elrond’s right, and placed a hand on his shoulder. Elrond patted the hand lovingly before addressing his son.
“I can not begin to express my displeasure at finding my household in an uproar because my youngest son could not behave while I was away.”
 “I was just having fun Ada.” Estel crossed his arms petulantly. “It’s not like anyone was hurt.”
Elrond’s eyes hardened. “Excuse me?”
Estel shifted nervously. “Sorry Ada.” He mumbled as he dropped his hands to his side and stood up straight.
Elrond leaned back in his chair. “Now, please list your misdeeds so we are clear on what needs to be discussed.”
Estel hated this part. He was never sure what his father actually knew. He looked up at two sets of stern eyes. “Um…I poured honey into Elrohir’s boots and uh…pushed Elladan into the lake…then I took all the berries from the kitchen and threw them at Elladan and Elrohir’s dates and stained their clothing…I set a bucket of curdled milk over the barn door and let it fall on Elrohir…and then there was the manure, but you already know about that…”
“Anything happen with Glorfindel?”
Estel paled. It was not like Glorfindel to tell on him, especially if he handed down punishment. “Y-You told him?”
Glorfindel hid a smile at Elrond’s tactics. “No. I did not.”
Estel wanted to smack himself for walking right into his father’s trap. “I…I argued with him…he told me to go to bed and I became angry…I said some words I am not allowed to say and told him I would not do as he told me…but he punished me so you do not need to.” He added hastily.
“Is that so? What did he do?”
“He washed my mouth out with soap.” Estel grimaced at the reminder. It took almost a day to get the taste out of his mouth.
“That is not all I did.” Glorfindel stated when Estel did not continue. He looked down at Elrond. “My hand and his bottom had a lengthy conversation on respect and obedience.”
“From his display a moment ago I do not think the conversation was long enough.” Elrond mused before returning his gaze to his son. ”Is that everything?”
“Yes sir.”
“Then you may go to your room. I will join you in a moment to discuss your punishment.”
Estel dropped his head. “Yes Ada.”
~~~

Elrond waited until he heard Estel on the stairs before speaking. “That child has quite the mind for mischief.”

“He reminds me of a young elf I once knew.” Glorfindel walked around to face Elrond. “One who once decided his tutor would look better with blue hair.”

Elrond grabbed Glorfindel and pulled him onto his lap. “And do you recall who taught me how to mix the dye?”

“Someone who knew better than to put it in his tutor’s soap vessel.”

“To this day I still do not know what possessed me to do as I did.” Elrond smiled. “I certainly remember my Father’s response.”

“If I remember correctly, you could not sit comfortably for several days.” Glorfindel kissed Elrond and stood. “Is that what you have planned for our young mischief maker?”

“As much as it pains me to do so, yes. I do not know what has gotten into him lately, but chores and time confined to his room have done nothing to curb his behavior. I do not know how much more the household can take.”

“You have let the boy worry long enough.” Glorfindel pulled Elrond to his feet. “Go put him out of his misery.”

“Yes My Lord.” Elrond said cheekily and headed for the doors.

“And he wonders where the children get it from.” Glorfindel shook his head and went back to the desk to work on his latest map drawing.

~~~
Estel laid on his bed absently kicking the bedpost, wondering what his father had in store for him. For most children, being sent to your room to wait for punishment was a sure sign you would be in for a painful evening. Unfortunately, this was his father’s standard practice regardless of the punishment, which made the waiting that much worse.
He was sure he knew what his father had planned, but a small part of him was hoping he was wrong. His father did not use that type of punishment often, though, much to Estel’s dismay, it’s use has become more frequent over the past months.
“Estel.”
Estel jumped to his feet. He did not hear his father enter his room. He took a deep breath to still his heart, which was trying to leap out of his chest, and waited to see if his father would sit or remain standing. He was praying for the latter.
Elrond sat on the bed and stared at his son, waiting for the inevitable plead for mercy.
Tears filled Estel’s eyes. “Ada, Amin hiraetha!** Please …I will do extra chores and go to bed early…anything you want…I was only playing! Please! ”
“Tula sinome.**”
Estel slowly walked to his father’s side and sighed in relief as he was pulled ON to his knee, not OVER it.
“The mischief in itself is not the problem. It is when that mischief involves taking what does not belong to you and ruining others possessions that troubles me. Do you understand what I am saying?”
“Yes sir.”
Elrond took Estel’s chin in his hand. “We have had this conversation before, have we not?”
“Yes sir.” Estel whispered and looked up at his father. “Please Ada!”
It took everything Elrond had to not give into his son’s pleading expression. “I warned you this would happen if you continued to misbehave.”
Tears streamed down Estel’s face as he was placed across the knee he was just sitting on. He made a token effort to keep his leggings on, knowing that to actually fight his father would only extend the painful session.
Elrond firmed his resolve and brought his hand down. Since his hand was large enough to cover the boys’ entire bottom, it did not take long to turn the skin a uniform red. He landed one final spank before lifting Estel and settling him carefully in his lap. Estel immediately buried his face into his father’s shirt and sobbed out his pain.
“Shhhh…” Elrond soothed as he rubbed the boys back. When Estel was calm enough to listen, he pulled him away from his chest. “I hope I do not need to do this again.”
“M-me too.”
Elrond kissed Estel’s forehead and laid him on his stomach. “You are to stay here until I call you for the midday meal.”
“Yes sir.”
“Amin mela lle.**”
Amin mela lle, vithel.**” Estel replied and drifted to sleep.
