The teenager daughter of the U.S. ambassador to Britain says she likes the country's sheep, but British boys are for the birds. Fifteen-year-old Mary-Catherine Lader put to rest all the cliches about English gentlemen in a scathing article she wrote for the current edition of the society magazine Tatler. "I love the Enlglish countryside, the Scottish Highlands, the sheep in Wales, and above all else, living in London," she wrote. "But when I started going out here, I found that British boys reall suck." Wallis Simpson, the American divorcee for whom Britain's Edward VIII abdicated in the 1930s, may have been turning in her grave, but Miss Lader pressed on. British boys were scrawny, pale, and unhealthy looking, she said. "As sexy as I once thought guys with British accents were, their lack of appealing social skills and poor dress sense soon overshadowed their attraction," she wrote. "I'm not sure it's actually possible to become friends with a British teenage guy," she continued. "His idea is to ask two questions...and then feel entitled to stick his tongue down your throat." |
