Princess Receives Apology Over Touch
SYDNEY (Reuters) - Britain's Princess Anne has received an apology after being accidentally touched by a sporting official at an Olympic hockey match, officials said.
The princess apparently didn't notice she had been touched but had received an apology nonetheless for the breach of royal protocol, a spokesman for the Sydney Games (news - web sites) said Monday.
``A sporting federation official has apologized for inadvertently touching Princess Anne...on the arm while escorting her at the hockey stadium Saturday,'' the spokesman said.
``The touch was noticed by a member of the royal party who later drew it to the attention of protocol officers. The princess made no complaint.''
Anne, 50, competed for Britain as a member of its equestrian team at the 1976 Montreal Olympics. She has been an International Olympic Committee (news - web sites) member since 1988.
