| Once upon a time in France, there lived a gypsy girl, orphaned as a child. For money, she danced in the streets with a tambourine and her goat named Djali. This gyspsy girl was named Esmeralda, and she had many admirers. The story goes that she married a man in order to save his life from her fellow gypsies. It also goes that she refused the affections of Dom Claude Frollo - a priest - and fell in love with Captain Phoebus. And she befriended the deaf and deformed Quasimodo and he gave her sanctuary in Notre Dame Cathedral. Another version of the story is 3/4 of the novel. She did befriend Quasimodo, and Dom Claude Frollo died by the end. Did she live happily ever after? Well, you know the answer by now. |
