| A Brief Bio Cleopatra Philopator VI was born in Alexandria, Egypt in the time B.C. She was the third daughter of King Ptolemy Auletes, descendants of Ptolemy, the Macedonian general of Alexander the Great. Her sisters were Tryphaena & Berenice (older) and Arsinoe (younger); her two younger brothers were Ptolemies, continuing with the line. As a teenager, she spent her time in the Library and Mousieoun, often with her friend Olympus, who eventually became a physician. She would grow up to be a queen, with children from both Julius Caesar and Marc Antony, both Roman. She died when Octavian, the new Caesar, defeated her fleet at sea and committed suicide by letting an asp bite her. Why I Admire Her... Cleo seems just like a seducer-queen who floated along the Nile all day putting on airs. Well, ok, she may have, but she wanted to take charge of Alexandria and improve it to be great and independent, free from Roman power. That attempt failed, but she still died in the pursuit of it (and also because she knew that she would be captured anyway). |
