Senna's Shield
By Doug

Part 1

She stared at me with her cold gray eyes.

She was such a mystery. A mystery that could never be solved. It was like she had a shield that I couldn't penetrate.

She would never provide me with the motherly love that April's mother did. She would never give me advice on who to date. She would never love me for me.

But then of course April, Jalil, Christopher, and David thought I was a cold-hearted being. With no sense of love. With no feelings.

But I was like my mother. I shielded myself from them. No one knows what I'm really like. No one knows I get scared at night, no one knows that I yearn for love and affection. They all thought I was a ruthless being.

But really, I was just wanted to be loved.

I wondered if my mother was like that. Just a black shield over a woman. Like me.

"Senna, let us go," April pleaded.

April. My half-sister. Unafraid of me. Hated me. But I still loved her. I wished sometimes that she would provide me with advice like any big sister. That would never and couldn't happen.

"Why did you bring these Mortals with you, Senna?" My mother asked in a stern voice like she had known me all my life.

I hated her.

"Because... I needed a hero for Everworld and I got one," I said quickly.

She knew I was lying. I could feel it. "The truth, Senna."

God I was so sick of them all ruining my life.

"Because I was lonely! Because I wanted friends! And parents to love me! God is that too much to ask for?!" I blurted out.

They stared at me with wide eyes. "You think I'm a heartless being with no feelings of love? Or fear? I'm human too!" I screamed.

"That's all you wanted? Want us to be your... friends?" Christopher asked.

"YES! IS that so much to ask?!" I cried, a tear running down my cheek.

"Senna. That's no reason to bring them here," Mother said.

"Get out of the way, old witch!" I screamed and stuck my hands out toward the wall where they hung. I released them.

We escaped Mother's castle. They now accepted me as one of them. And now I could use them any way I wanted.

What fools they were...

Part 2

We made the journey across the lake back to the village safely.

Now that they trusted me, I had them at my fingertips.

We checked in at an inn and walked down to the edge of the lake. The castle loomed over us making a shadow that went on for miles. The clouds above were a dark gray and the lake mirrored everything within inches.

While Jalil bored David, Christopher, and April about how the castle was impossibly high, I thought about how I was going to hide myself. I had a plan. Not very good. Not reliable. But it was a plan.

I would leave in the morning before the sun came up and take all the supplies and clothing they had. I would then journey back to Fairy land and live among the fairies disguising myself as one of them. That way Merlin nor Loki would ever find me. I would probably marry, have a kid or two, then when my powers were strong enough, I would leave them and over take Merlin.

Like I said not very reliable.

As for April, Christopher, Jalil, and David, they would probably try to find a way home for the rest of their lives. Living in Everworld and the real world everyday. Each dying one by one after a battle.

I could see it now. David would probably die in battle. Christopher would be killed after offending a king. Jalil would mouth off to Loki and die. And April would probably be captured and used for "entertainment" by the Vikings or Loki's trolls.

But before I would leave, I would get what I wanted.

If my plan failed, then my plan B would take over. Leave, but take David with me.

Part 3

"That bitch has done it again," April growled.

"Damn it!" I shouted. "We should of never believed her!"

"She took David with her! I knew he was more to her than a hero." Christopher grumbled.

Morning. It had been one day since we had escaped Harlo's castle. Harlo was Senna's mother.

Harlo served Isis, An Egyptian Goddess. It made me sick to think how Harlo was at Isis' beck and call. It was like slavery. Harlo would probably wipe Isis' ass if she ordered her to. She was concealed forever to live in her castle.

That's why we had come back to the village. She couldn't come for us. Senna had been deeply hurt by Harlo's words. And I think for a moment, she revealed a little about herself. She was, after all, half human. Go figure.

Man, I can't wait til I can pull this place apart, atom by atom, stich by stich. Figure out the damned complicated software of Hel, Loki, and the other mental Gods who rule Everworld.

"What do we do now?!" April exclaimed.

I sighed. "I have no idea," I confessed.

"The next time I see that witch I'm gonna kill her! God help me, I will!" Christopher said making a wringing movement with his hands.

"I say we get some more sleep here, and hook up in the real world," I suggested. They agreed.

I was so exhausted. We had been hanging on Harlo's wall for three days. My wrists were beyond recognition and most of my muscles had been pulled. April was still in her bed. She pulled the covers over herself.

A moment later, after Christopher thought I was sleeping, He walked over to April's bed and slowly climbed in. To my surprise April didn't notice. She probably plunked right off to sleep.

I could hear Christopher cuddling up with her and I gave a small laugh. I closed my eyes and fell asleep...

"Jalil?" April asked. She shook me until I opened my eyes.

CNN: Breaking News! What did I do... Ate dinner, whoop dee do, worked some more on my website, went to school, the usual.

"He's coming around," Christopher said.

"Sorry, I just drifted off," I said. "So? What do we do?"

"What do you mean?" Christopher asked.

"Christopher! You're not asleep yet!" April yelled, hitting him with her backpack.

"How could he be? He's in your bed inches away from your face," I said.

"I am? "Christopher laughed.

April looked thunderstruck. "What?! Damn you Christopher! Oh God, I need to wake up!" April panicked.

"I probably haven't done anything...yet..." Christopher grinned. He seemed quite pleased with himself.

"Have you seen David?" I asked April.

"I saw him on my way to Drama Club. He didn't want to talk to me though," April said.

"Where was he heading?"

"Parking lot."

"Figures," I muttered.

"What's going on?" Christopher asked.

"Senna did it again," I said. With one sentence he knew what I was talking about. He swore a little. April called him a dirty pervert and I thought about Everworld.

"There's one thing to do," I said.

"What's that?"

"We've done it before. We've done it tons of times. Search for Senna."
