David is faced with the fact that he is not as much as a 'man' as he'd like to be. He takes leadership into his own hands and thinks of himself as a commander of the group, whilst tightly holding Galahad's sword.
The group seems to put him in charge when danger is there, mainly so he can take the blame and be humiliated. He pretends nothing scares him; he likes to act fearless. But, when confronted by Loki, he admitted to cowering, and subdued to soiling himself.
As Everworld goes a long, the others become a lot more tolerable of him, and he is becoming a better character. He has a grudge against Christopher, but alas, who dosn't? He is very smart, and makes good decisions for the group. Personal Look: David is certinally an important role in the Everworld series. KA Applegate seems to be developing his character by making him more likable. I like where David's going, as a character, but I would not necessarily say I like him as a person.
