April has mixed personalities, half being 'schadenfreude'; (that's German, meaning enjoyment of the fate of others), and a caring side too.

At the start of the series she had more of a what you would call a 'mean' side, but now she's relised her potential, and saves the guys butts from killing each other basically every day in Everworld.

April is into the Arts, drama and acting. She's in Drama Club, and loves to fantasize about being a proffesional actor someday. She is respected by the guys, and sorts out their bickering.

Look, every book series needs at least one girl, I'm sure of that. And KA has done a great job on giving April the right personality, and such. From books #3 or #4 onwards, April has become more of a 'leader', and is an essential character.
