Zeus was considered the father of the gods and of all mortals. He did not creat gods, neither mortals, he was called the father in the sense of being leader of the Olympian family and of the human race. He was the god of thunder, and was lord of the sky, the rain god, the cloud gatherer, who weilded the thunderbolt from his hand.
He is pictured as god of justice, and mercy, and protector of the weak, as well as punisher of wrong-doers. He resorted to many tricks to hide his multiple affairs from his wife. The result of these affairs was a huge offspring. Zeus was portrayed as a large bearded man in all Greek sculptures and paintings.
