Dwelling beneath one of the tree roots of the sacred ash tree Yggdrasil in the Underworld. The Underworld is icey and cold; unlike many imagine. Many think it is hot and firey, but it is the exact oppiset.

She is daughter of Loki; and is said to be "death itself", one side of her body is a beautiful young female, while the other side is rotting flesh.

Odin, the All-Father, tossed Hel into Niflheim, the realm of cold and darkness, and it became known as Hel, and this she claimed as her own.

The entrance of the Underworld was protected by a vicious dog that Hel called Garm. People had two different opinions about Hel, one being that she is evil and "Death Itself", and the other being that she is a God to worship.
