Blue Beads

Bermuda

Blue Beads

Our trip to Bermuda was a cruise. Our cruise was somewhat different from most cruises because we had only one destination, whereas most cruises have many ports of call in which they visit. This was fine with us because it was our first cruise, and this allowed us to just "get our feet wet".

Our departure was on a Saturday evening, on October 22, 1994 from New York City. What an exciting departure!! We cruised past the Statue of Liberty, saw the Twin Towers and the Empire State Building. We got some great pictures.

We cruised until Monday morning, when we arrived, at sunrise, in Bermuda. What an exiting arrival!! The coast of Bermuda is very lush with smallish, rolling hills with beautiful pastel colored homes nestled all over the place.

I can't say enough good things about the cruise line we chose. Celebrity, from what I've heard, is known as an "elegant" line, and I have to agree. All I can say, is that everything was PERFECT; from our cabin (roomier than expected), to the staff, food, activities, and decor.

We stayed docked for four days, so that gave us plenty of time to explore the island. The beaches are fabulous, very quiet, very serene with light pink sand. The island is spotless; people are fined if their cars have dents or rust! The shopping is top-of-the line and expensive. Don't expect to barter and get things dirt cheap; I don't think that is acceptable. I did get, however, get some Portmeirion pottery from England for much cheaper than you can get it in the states. So there are exceptions to the general high cost of many things.

The people are gracious and just about everyone was quite beautiful; the men looked great in their Bermuda Shorts and dresst ties! One day while we were waiting for the bus, a native driving his Aunt in to town, stopped and offered us a ride! They were very pleasant and spoke (like all Bermudians) with a very interesting accent.

Below are some pictures.

A Nice Piece of Vintage Art Of A Harbor in Bermuda.

Notice the pastel colored homes; a beautiful Bermudian trademark.

This photo is of downtown Hamilton and was taken from the top deck of the ship while in harbor. Pretty high, huh?
