Kasey Kahne is one of NASCAR'S breakout young guns. After his successful rookie year in 2004 he is having his best year yet in 2006, 6 wins and a sweep at Lowes Motor Speedway but it all had to start somewhere. In 2002 Kahne got his start in NASCAR. He raced in 20 Busch Series races in the #98 Channelock Ford fieded by Robert Yates Racing. He finished 33rd in the 2002 NBS point standings recording 1 top 10. His performance in his freshman year caught the eye of Doug Stringer, owner of Akins Motorsports. Akins had been around for 2 years and was one of the top Busch teams. Kahne's sponsor would be Great Clips. In his first full season Kahne would finish 7th  in the points standings with 1 pole, 4 top 5's, 14 top 10's, and his first NBS win at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He earned $831,415 in prize money. The departing Bill Elliott left Ray Evernam's #9 Dodge seat empty for the 2004 Nextel Cup season. Bill Elliott was going into semi retirement and would be driving Evernham's part-time #91 car. Evernham was quick to call on Kahne to drive his #9 car for the 2004 season. Many people were expecting Brian Vickers to win the Rookie of the Year award that year but nobody saw Kahne coming. In only his second start Kahne almost won the 2004's Subway 400 at the North Carolina speedway finishing 2nd to Matt Kenseth in the 5th closest finish in NASCAR history. His breakout year earned him 11 top 5's, 12 top 10's, 6 second place finishes and a 12th place finish in the 2004 NNCS point standings. Kahne would get his first NNCS Victory at Richmond Intetnational Raceway in may 2005. 2005 was supposed to be Kahne's dream year but blown engines, mechanical failures, and crashes ended him up 23rd in the 2005 NNCS point standings. 2006 was a great year for Kahne & his team. They finished 8th in the points standings with 6 wins, 12 top 5's and 19 top 10's. Kahne hopes to top that in 2007
