The Forest

You crash through the castle gate and back out into the forest. You don't care where you're going--anywhere is good, as long as you don't spend another minute near this freaky place! The scenery continues to shift around you, and soon you are hopelessly lost again. You ask the trees for help, but they refuse to form a path. Instead, they pull away from you and shake their heads almost sadly.

"Oh, they won't help you now," says a voice near your feet. You look down, but the only living being you see is a squirrel-like creature sitting on a stump. By now, you're willing to believe just about anything, so it doesn't surprise you too much when the squirrel winks at you and then continues to speak. "They get terribly upset when people don't follow their advice, you know. The way they see it, they tried to help you once and you ignored them. They won't help you again."

You're having visions of spending the rest of your life finding your way out of the forest until the creature says, "Don't look so sad. If you really need a guide through the forest, I'll help you."

"You will? Really?" you say.

"Of course. Where do you want to go?"

"Well," you say, "I just came from this really scary castle place..."

The creature interrupts you. "I know where that is! I'd be happy to take you there!"

You would really rather find your way back home than go back to the castle, but you're not sure the squirrel can get you there. Suddenly another thought occurs to you: What if the squirrel isn't telling the truth? What if it actually intends to lead you somewhere else--like the cave of a really big monster?

What do you do?

Trust the squirrel

Try to find your way out on your own
