Harry had always been an early riser. And true to form, he woke
early to the sound of the dawn chorus outside the open
sitting room window. Draco still lay fast asleep beside him. Harry
couldn't lie to himself that Draco's question last night hadn't
hadn't unnerved him. To be honest it terrified him. Draco was obviously
worried that Harry didn't love him , and Harry
could tell that simply reassuring him wasn't enough anymore. It
wasn't the first time that Dracos had asked him this either.
They had been having problems ever since Sirius died, Harry had
tried to be himself again, but he had changed completely.
He used to be spontaneous and laughed all the time, but now it was
rare for him to laugh. Thats why Draco had been surprised
when Harry was laughing and joking with Ron the other night. Harry
knew that Draco was worried, and he tried his best to smile and
show that everything was alright. Especially when Draco was down.
Something drastic needed to happen if they wanted to save their
relationship. And as He lay awake in the early morning light Harry
swore to himself that he was going to save them. Perhaps
something nice for Draco's birthday? he thought. It was going to
have to be bloody spectacular.Something that Draco would never suspect.
The only thing was time was running out, including today there was
only two days till his birthday.
Harry sighed racking his brains for some hint of something that
would blow Draco's mind. He closed his eyes going back over any
significant memories of them together. His brain halted suddenly
at something Harry had always found a little funny.
He remembered when he had been invited to Hermione's hen night,
because Ron had been dragged off by his brothers for more of a
sibling orientated evening. Ginny had planned the hen night, they
all apparated together outside this night club. Harry was
the only bloke but no-one seemed to mind. Harry had felt bad about
leaving Draco at home all alone, but he knew he couldn't let
Hermione down. Anyway they had all walked inside, the place was
pretty empty apart from a pole dancing girl up on the
stage and only one person in the audience. As they walked nearer
Harry was shocked to find that the dancing girl was actually
a boy around his age, in a beautiful dress, high heels the whole
shabang. He was even more shocked to find out that the only
person in the audience had been Draco. When Harry had confronted
him afterwards, he had blushed and glossed over the whole thing
as a silly mistake.
Harry's eyes suddenly snapped open as he was struck by an epiphany.
Smiling to himself, he slid quietly off the sofa
and snuck out to the kitchen. Searching his address book he found
Ron and Hermione's number. He took it down and tacked it to
the wall next to the phone. The clock on the kitchen wall read '7:00',
still to early to call. So Harry decided that he would eat first
and ring her about eight, That way gwen would be awake and gone
to the wizard playschool that Tonk's ran and Ron would be gone
to work for the day.
"Hello?" Hermione asked picking
up the phone.
"Hey Herms"
"Oh, Harry! I am so sorry about last night."
"It's grand, don't worry about it." He said
"Are you sure?"
"yes, Herms" Harry laughed.
"Oh, good" she sighed utterly relieved. "Is there
anything I can do though?"
"yes, actually" Harry said a little embarrrassed. "Herms
theres something I need some help with. Can I come over to you?"
"Of course" She replied happy that he still wanted to
visit after Ron's outburst last night."Come over at about
'9:00'"
"Thanks Hermione, see you then."
"see you."
Harry hung up and walked back into the sitting room to the sleeping
Draco. He smiled. This was going to be fun, he just
hoped that it would be enough.
A few minutes before nine Harry swung on his cloak and fastened
it, he pulled on his gloves aswell. As it was the middle of November
and bloody cold outside. He walked into the sitting room and knelt
beside the still sleeping Draco.
"Draco?"
"nnngh?"
"Im off out ok? I'll give you a bell later k? Leave your
phone on."
"nnnngh."
Harry smiled, he knew by now that in the mornings that meant yes.
Standing and turning he went to leave.
"NNGGH!"
Harry turned back around to see Draco still laying there half
asleep, lazily pointing to his lips.
Rolling his eyes jokingly Harry knelt back down and planted a
kiss on him.
"Happy now?" Harry teased brushing the hair off Draco's
face.
Draco smiled. "Nngh".
"Good."
It was about five minutes after nine when Hermione opened her
front doot to find Harry standing with rosy cheeks in the bitter
cold.
She brought him in and pulled of his cloak and scarf, as she always
had done. Then scolded him for not wearing enough layers.
"Did you not apparate?" jeez she looked like Mrs Weasley
when she gets like that.
"I did to about a mile away. I wanted a little walk Herms"
"Oh, well at least your in the warm now. C'mon theres a pot
of tea on the stove."
He followed her through the familiar hallway into the cozy little
kitchen in which they had eaten last night.
She poured them both tea and cut a few slices of chocolate sponge
that Mrs Weasley had sent over.
Harry took a slice gratefully, anything to prolong the moment
before he would ask her that embarrassing question. That
seemed a hell of alot easier about an hour or two ago.
"Are you ok Harry?" She asked eyeing him carefully.
"Your acting a little funny."
"Yeah, Im fine." he replied taking a sip of earl grey.
"I need your help with something Herms."
"OOh, what is it?" she asked eyes widening. Always eager
for a challenge he thought.
"Don't laugh now."
"I swear i wont." she said crossing her heart. At least
Harry knew he could trust her to keep this secret.
"Do you remember your hen night?" he asked, hoping she
would get the hint.
"Just about, I did consume a bit too much alcohol."
she laughed. Harry had to agree with her on that one.
"I mean the girl who turned out not to be a girl but a boy?"
he said awkwardly.
"yeah, what about it?"
"I can't believe I'm saying this but can you do that for
me?"
She simply stared at him for a moment, then dared to ask the question..
"Why?"
"Remember Draco was there?" He said desperately hoping
she would catch on. To his relief, comprehension dawned on her
face.
"Draco's birthday on Saturday?"
"Yeah" He blushed, finishing his cup."I want to
show him that Im willing to do anything for him, even if it means
humiliating myself."
"That's gutsy Harry" she complimented.
"I know, do you think it will work?"
"Y'know what? I think its just the ticket" She said
smiling.
"So will you help me?" he asked a slight note of pleading
in his voice.
"Of course, I will!" she beamed "Wont be too hard
turning you into a girl" she grinned teasingly.
"Thanks" he smiled.
As soon as they had finished their tea, Hermione grbbed him by
the wrist and dragged him up the stairs into the main bedroom.
She pushed him into a sitting position on the bed and pulled open
her wardrobe which was bursting at the seams. A real treasure
trove.
"Any idea what you want to wear?" She asked
"No clue" He said a little overwhelmed by the expanse
of clothing.
"No, problem" she said rifling through her wardrobe.
"We just need to find you the perfect little number."
