Mary Sues - or, "But she has really nice hair!"

Now, here's the thing. Belle was planning to write a really nifty article on Mary Sues, but when she started her research on them, she started with Wikipedia, and found that the article had pretty much been written already. So, she decided that a bunch of links for further reading might be more useful than a rehash of what was already available. Obviously, if you know of any others, you can go ahead and suggest them, either by sending us a message or by leaving a note in the guestbook. Also, we're currently looking for someone willing to write an article about the way Mary Sue has turned into a bit of an obsession, and how, in some sections, it's impossible even to introduce an OC (see glossary) without someone screaming "Mary Sue!" or even "anti-Sue". Belle was actually quite interested in writing this article, and probably will in a few weeks if no one else volunteers, but right now, she's a bit flaked out…

The Mary Sue Litmus Test - Linked on the Wikipedia entry, but I just had to mention it. This one is eagerly checked by creators of OCs desperate to avoid "Die, Mary Sue!" flames. Good for checking, but don't stress out if yours comes out as an MS.

A list of 'Mary Sue types' and common plots relating to Lord of the Rings FanFiction. Quite an enjoyable read, actually!

A guide to Mary Sues written for Harry Potter fans, but pretty useful for anybody who has a passing understanding of the word 'Hogwarts' (and if that's not you, now's as good a time as any to come out from under the rock).
