
Charles Shafer taught English for thirty-seven years at Lee College in Baytown, Texas. In addition to �The View from the Chinaberry Tree�, he has published numerous articles in professional journals, books and magazines.
A native of beautiful Winfield, Texas, he received his B.A. in 1963 and his M.Ed. from the University of Houston in 1970. He has worked as a teacher and assistant principal in Houston, a construction worker, an instructor in the Fourth Army NCO Academy, a member of a federal desegregation task force and an English instructor for convict students in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. He recently completed an audio version of �The View from the Chinaberry Tree� and is working on another book.
A self-described raconteur, he has four grandchildren who love to hear his wonderful stories. They also love to have him play with them in �history� reenactments. He really is quite good!
