You're Gonna Be OK
by Slim Farnsworth ~ Paonia, Colorado
Howdy, I'm here t' help y',
I realize yer havin' some pain,
I know I may seem kinda crazy,
But really I'm pretty much sane.
Yeah, yer bleedin' a little,
And yer bone's stickin' outta yer skin,
Yer airway's a little bit shaky,
And yer bp's gettin' real thin.
Don't worry pardner, I'll fix it,
Jist let me start y' a line,
This 14 gauge il get y' the juice,
And in no time y'll be feelin' jist fine.
Yeah, it's a big honkin' needle,
Naw, it won't hurt a bit,
Forgive me Lord fer lyin',
When I stick im he'll have a fit.
Hold on now and close yer eyes,
Y' may feel a little prick,
After I get this needle in,
Y' might beat me with a stick.
Uh-oh, we got a problem,
But don't you worry none,
You may be bleedin' profusely,
But I promise, I'll save y' son.
Uh-oh, yer O2's droppin',
And yer pulse is risin' fast,
Yer bp gap is closin',
I don't know how long you'll last.
Yer gonna be ok,
Of this I'm perty sure,
That rhthym doesn't look too good,
Defib may be the cure.
Don't worry pardner I promise,
Yer gonna be ok,
Oops, it seems yer dead,
And sorry is all I can say.

EMT's Prayer
by Slim Farnsworth ~ Paonia, Colorado
Lord, I'm not a perfect sort,
You would surely know,
But Lord, I beg you stay with me,
On every call I go.
I know I can't save everyone,
Their lives are in your hand,
And when you choose t' call them home,
I try to understand.
Help me save the ones I can,
And stay here by my side,
Calm my shakin' hands Lord,
And bless the driver for the ride.
Help, me do what's needin' done,
And give the needed care,
Help me show them sympathy,
Whether dark or fair.
Help me keep my focus,
And make my actions swift,
Help me say the perfect words,
When their spirits I must lift.
Help me do the best I can,
And treat each one with love,
Cause I know I'm just a helper,
To the medic up above.

The Fire Still Burns Within
by Slim Farnsworth ~ Paonia, Colorado
He's walkin' down, the smoke filled hall,
And then he hears her scream,
And this is how he wakes each night,
From that awful wretched dream.
He lies alone and stares ahead,
At the blackness of the wall,
Then relives every detail,
Of the night he got the call.
Ladder 50, Ladder 50,
We need you to respond,
To 48th and Crestview,
The apartments just beyond.
We have reports of fire,
A' climbin' up the wall,
And we was asked to expedite,
When we first got the call.
All at once, ten men rise up,
The station comes t' life,
They all get dressed real quick,
And he kissed the picture of his wife.
They fired up their fire trucks,
And headed with great haste,
The fire was gettin' bigger,
And they had no time t' waste.
Up the ladder, up the ladder,
Thats where he had t' go,
But as he climbs, he notices,
The car parked down below.
No, but no, it couldn't be,
The voice said in his head,
But as he climbed the ladder,
His heart filled up with dread.
He enters through the window,
And then walks down the hall,
He opens up each door,
And checks them one and all.
He's gettin' near the end,
Just two doors t' go,
When he hears a scream of agony,
Just one floor below.
He clears the last two rooms,
And heads towards the stairs,
He blunders blindly through the smoke,
Forgetting all his cares.
He knows the scream that he just heard,
It echos in his head,
And as he faced a wall of fire,
His heart filled up with dread.
He forges on into the fire,
And cares none for his life,
He hears the cry for help once more,
The voice of his dear wife.
He rounds the corner, there she is,
Lyin' in the hall,
He picks her up, and heads back out,
As he follows the smoke grimed wall.
He hurries down the ladder,
With the burden he can't bear,
He took too long, and now she's gone,
A corpse with glassy stare.
He slumps down, beside the rig,
The fire gets put out,
He doesn't think he'll ever live,
Now that he's without.
He told hisself, ten years ago,
A new life he'd begin,
But he just can't get over her,
And the fire still burns within.
