The Other Side Of Cowboy

    Inquisitive Psyche
by Jan Price ~ Sydney, Australia

Has time come to say goodbye,
rest our heads and softly cry.
    Perhaps we won't see rainbows...
    anymore.

No more bluebirds in the sky,
day becomes the dark of night.
Who knows if dawn will waken...
    as before.

As we sleep we travel far,
dreamtime shows us who we are,
but do we want to journey...
    on this plane?

Come the morrow shall we know,
    will the morning glory show?
    In time will we awaken...
    once again?

Bats 'n Birds 'n Other Wings
by Jan Price ~ Sydney, Australia

Fruit bats fly 'cross paling skies,
double quick beats of wings give rise
    to urgency and piercing cries,
    nighttime aiding their disguise.

    Families of doves gather nearby,
    docile birds so very shy
but ever alert with hawk-like eye,
one sudden movement makes them fly.

    Other winged creatures flutter by,
    a moth, a beetle, a dragonfly.
Various wings of nature are spied,
gone too soon with the blink of an eye.

    Dinner For Two
by Jan Price ~ Sydney, Australia

Dinner for two beneath shimmering stars
    with Nature providing the decor,
    moonlight supplying the candlelight mode,
what more could the lovers dare ask for.

Owls and cicadas play life's sweet sonata
as a simple repast is partaken,
imbibing the fragrance of nature's perfume,
the raw beauty of life not forsaken.

No finer location could fate allocate
than wrapped in the arms of creation,
dinner for two beneath shimmering stars,
    idyllic for love's proclamation.

    Dear Mr. Wayne
by Jan Price ~ Sydney, Australia

Dear Mr. Wayne, as I'm writing today
I'm not a big fan of yours, sorry to say.
Although I love westerns and cowboys still rule
I just can't quite see what makes your fans drool.

I've sat through the movies where you are the star,
I've tried lookin' at you from angles afar.
But still nothing strikes me the way that it should,
Tho' the fellas all tell me that you're mighty good.

It could be your eyes or your gait or your grin,
Or maybe the fact you've no hair on your chin.
I know you're the hero in all of your duels
But I'd rather be watching a roundup of mules.

I thought with maturity I might grasp the concept
Of seein' your talent from a cowBOY aspect.
But try hard as I have, it still escapes me
Why folks of both genders go crazy for thee.

Well, I'll keep on tryin' to figure it out
And one of these days you might hear me shout
"Dear Mr. Wayne, as I'm writing today,
You've gained a new fan I'm real happy to say."

    My Friend
by Jan Price ~ Sydney, Australia

    Fate brought us together
    oh....so many years' ago.
    You'd tried it with another
but it wasn't to be so.

    I knew I shouldn't let myself
get attached to you this way
but our love kept getting stronger
with the passing of each day.

    Many others' came between us
    vying for my time
and although I loved them dearly,
    They were never really mine.

    We've both seen many battles'
in our lives along the way.
    We survived them all together,
    I'm not ashamed to say.

    No-one seemed to understand
    this special bond we had.
They'd look at you then look at me,
I'm sure they thought us mad.

You've been such a faithful companion,
much more than you'll ever know
and as much as it breaks' my heart,
it's time to let you go.

I didn't want it to be this way,
I didn't want it to end,
so please let me tell you one last time,
I love you, my furry friend.
