Summer Morning

Its early on a summer day,
The sun with slanting rays,
Paints silhouettes of leafy trees
Along the grassy ways.

The lark sings out his little heart
In clear blue skies above.
And on a wall outside our house
There sits a cooing dove.

Get up, come out, they say to me,
Before the crowds awake.
Enjoy the freshness of the day,
Food for your spirit take.

The dewdrops hanging on the grass
Like diamonds glittering.
All nature is in harmony.
A perfect silence sings.

A pheasant calls, and poised for flight
A hare sits by the way.
The wheat stands ripening in the field
All the long summer day.

The wayside ditches filled with flowers
Of yellow, purple, white.
And flowering bushes fill the air
With fragrance sweet and light.

I sit down by the ancient church,
A patchwork of great stones.
Its spire pointing up to heaven.
Now it is mine alone.

Its walls have heard so many prayers
In times of well and woe.
I add my words to all the rest
That up to heaven go.

I lift my thankful praise to God
For natures gift and grace.
It is so good to be alive
In this lovely, sunny place.

Poetess

Poetess, my friend, I love you so,
You have become a kindred soul, you know,
I write this poem to a friend whose dear,
Im sorry if I made you shed a tear.

Sometimes our words cannot express our hearts,
Sometimes our pens reveal less happy parts,
Aggressive and ungracious words come up,
And loved ones then must taste this bitter cup.

Forgive my stumbling words my precious friend,
And be my poet buddy to the end,
And drinking from heavens inspirations well,
Together well our Saviors glories tell.

Treasure
To Maibritt

I have a most beautiful treasure
God gave her to share my life
She is a companion most precious
A faithful and loving wife

When we first met, her pastor
Called us to talk with him
Counsel so wise he then gave us
Truthfully share everything

Healing can come when youre honest
Tell the whole truth from the start
Dont hide behind walls of silence
Open the doors of your heart

Our past lives had not been so perfect
Wed fallen at times into sin
It took courage to open our secrets
And to let each other see in

Thus from the start of our marriage
Weve built on the rock and not sand
Though storm winds our building have threatened
Truth and love helped us to stand

For we have the strongest foundation
That any marriage can save
Faith in our Heavenly Father
And the love for each other He gave

So one day has followed another
And each year we grow more content
Serving our God and our neighbor
Enjoying each day that Hes sent

Of course we have had disagreements
And unloving words have been said
But quickly weve asked for forgiveness
Did not take our anger to bed

And God in His wisdom has given
A precious diversity
Our characters complete each other
To a wonderful unity

I love to watch my belovd
As she sits at the table and rests
Painting with watercolors
Using the gift God has blessed

Her talents transform into beauty
The everyday things of our life
Our home is a haven of comfort
From a world of struggle and strife

Her caring so tender to others
Her kindness and love to her friends
My willing and faithful companion
My treasure for days without end

A three fold cord is the strongest
And very hard to break
God and a man and a woman
An unbreakable unity make

Feelings

A poet with disturbing thoughts
And not quite feeling as I ought.
I had life tamed under control.
Unfeeling peace reigned in my soul.

But since I started writing verse
My self control is getting worse.
Sleeping emotions wake again.
Im conscious of an inner pain.

Whats more theres curiosity
For things before I didnt see.
People, places, flowers and skies,
Now feelings opening up my eyes.

Is this the price one has to pay
For leaving mainland ports so gray
And launching out upon the sea
Of this disturbing poetry?

But though its hard I must go on,
Sailing my boat towards the sun,
On this voyage of discovery
And find out what there is in me.

Dry Well

Daily I come to the source
The place inspiration abode
Now there is nothing but dust
Where once living waters flowed

I walked on a tightrope of words
Saw cheering crowds far below
Drunk of a heady new wine
Only a few weeks ago

Will it be days, months or years
Till my life-well springs up again
New inspiration returns
And new poetry flows from my pen?

Still I must wait patiently
Till Poetry chooses her time
Flows in my veins once again
Shows me her beauty sublime

First Snow

Finally the longed for snow has come
Virgin pure, both beautiful and clean
Covering like a blanket everything
Giving an idyllic Winter scene

Right behind our house the children play
Throwing snow balls in a happy fight
Riding sleds together down the hill
Squealing with excitement and delight

Short Winter days are brightened by the light
Reflected from the long awaited snow
And star filled nights smile thankfully upon
The sparkling covering on the earth below

Flocks of hungry crested Waxwings come
Land on the berry laden Rowan trees
The chill of Winter conjures forth a scene
Denied to us in warmer days of ease

But soon the virgin blanket is defiled
Covered by tracks of animals and men
And dirty trodden paths so soon appear
We long for a fresh fall of snow again
