| Judith Stone is a contributing editor at O, The Oprah Magazine. She was formerly the features editor for Maribella, the articles editor or MacKall's and of Science Digest, and a contributing editor at Glamour, Health, and Discover. "Light Elements," her humor column for Discover, won a 1989 National Headliner Award. She is the author of Light Elements: Essays on Science from Gravity to Levity (Ballantine, 1991), and contributed to The Nature of Nature: New Essays from America's Finest Writers on Nature (Harcourt, 1994), and Mysteries of Life and the Universe: New Essays from America's Finest Writers on Science (Harcourt 1992). Her work has been anthologized in Life's a Stitch: The Best Contemporary Womens Humor (Random House, 2002), and Portfolio: Essays for Critical Thinking and Writing (Oxford, 1993). Her articles have appeared in the New York Times Magazine, New York, Elle, Ms, and many other publications, including her most recent biography, When She Was White: A True Story of a Family Divided by Race (Mirimax Books, 2007). The book draws on a wealth of research, including extensive interviews, and presents the true story of Sandra Laing, a women whose life was torn apart by prejudice in South Africa and healed by love.
