Notice: The actual theological concepts I intend to address through the story are revealed in detail by the story itself. The term chosen for the unique part of the title reflects a concept I believe to be important to the plot of this story, i.e. the emptying of the self for the greater good (G'd), and thus for the good of others also.
Disclaimer: The following text is a fan-fiction written for the anime series Neon Genesis: Evangelion. This series and all contents are owned by Gainax, the series creator, Hideaki Anno, and associated authorities. The concepts dealt with in this story are thus owned by said authorities. The specific elements of the plot unique to this story are my own creation.
Preface: This story seeks to modify the end of the actual series, and continue it. Thus the story lends itself to an audience already well-versed in the series itself. If you have not seen the entire series yet, please do not read further.
(Do not proceed if you do not want to be spoiled.)
You can read the following story with any mind set you wish. After the third impact Shinji Ikari contemplates what life would have been like if things had turned out differently. This taking the form of Gendo and Yui being very happy and raising him, with Asuka as a neighbor, et cetera. If you wish, you can read the following as if I am going to continue the story of Evangelion in a similar fashion. As if this entire story is a contemplation of Shinjis, though I intend to develop it rather seriously. He asks himself what it would be like if the SEELE group had failed in their attempt to cause Third Impact. This single change causes incredible shifts (obviously) and results in the ability of the story to continue on. Or you can choose to see it as an actual change to the original series' plot, and not a simple 'theory-verse' of Shinji's. There are naturally other ways to perceive the story, but my point is made with these two. Regardless of how you wish to perceive this fan-fiction, it begins with several assumed modifications to the original plot.
Aside from the SEELE group failing, two other things are altered before I begin. One, Kaji doesn't die; he tries to stay alive and doesn't go to the 'meeting' with whoever shot him. And two, Misato's gunshot wound is less serious and she is alive.
Now you can obviously tell that this is me simply trying to keep certain characters in the storyline. To prevent any changes until the moment I cut in, Kaji doesn't show back up until my new story starts and Misato faints at the elevator.
