| Natural Distribution: The adult penguin is a sedentary animal and does not stray far from is breeding and birth place. There natural range extends from 32 degrees South to 47 degrees South (Williams 231).They were at one time found all along the coast of New Zealand; however, they are now dwindling in some areas. Modern Distribution: Currently, the population of Eudyptula minor is slowly changing, being described as " stable or decreasing (Dann 91)." This is largely due to development projects that occured along the coasts of New Zealand and Phillip Islandn as well as the conversion of coast land into farm-land; however, most of these projects have been halted or reversed as the "Penguin Parade," the daily movement of the Blue Penguins from the ocean to the land at night has become a powerful tourist attraction (Reilly 117). |
