Biography
Veteran driver Joe Ruttman has been racing for the
better part of 30 years. He has raced in just about
every type of vehicle there is and at over 300 different
tracks in the country. During this period of time, he
has won over 350 events. Over the years, Ruttman
has shown a talent that has made him a racing ace
and the 1980 champion of the United States Auto
Club (USAC) stock car division.
After several years racing around the country,
Ruttman moved to the NASCAR Winston Cup
Series where he competed for a number of years. He
also ran in the NASCAR Busch Grand National
Series, where he won a race in 1982.
In 1995, Ruttman took what some thought may have
been a bad career move in joining the newly formed
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. But as history has shown, the series has
grown into a premier division in the NASCAR family.
Over the first four years of the series, Ruttman was a main stay at the top of the
Championship hunt. During which time, he finished in the top four in points every
year. Last year, Ruttman found himself without a ride until he joined Bobby
Hamilton Racing midway through the season. Ruttman also ranks third in all time
money earnings in the series.
Ruttman enters the 2000 season hoping his relationship with Bobby Hamilton
Racing and Dana Corporation is the one that propels him back to the forefront of
the series. Ruttman will be in the familiar blue and white No. 18 Bobby Hamilton
Racing Dana Dodge truck.
