Biography
Dennis Setzer nearly captured the NASCAR
Craftsman Truck Series championship in his first full
season on tour ... despite finishing 34th and last in
the Miami opener, Setzer went into the finale just 25
points off the lead ... a early accident ended the title
bid but Setzer and his Mopar Performance Dodge
team can look back on 1999 as a fantastically
successful campaign ... they gave Dodge its first
superspeedway victory in June at Texas Motor
Speedway ... that victory was followed by wins at
Nashville Speedway USA and New Hampshire
International Speedway ... the Howard
Comstock-directed effort posted 19 top-10 finishes,
by far the best by a Dodge in the series ... Setzer
also won his first Bud Pole, at Indianapolis ... Setzer
was a backup driver in 1998 and it landed him a
fulltime NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series ride for the
coming campaign ... he stepped into K-Racing Mopar Performance Dodge in
mid-September, in relief of ailing Bob Keselowski and the results were immediate
... Setzer posted top-10 finishes in three of six starts, including a victory in the
Dodge California Truck Stop 300 at Mesa Marin Raceway in Bakersfield CA ...
the North Carolina native proved early he had what it takes to succeed in the
tough trucks ... he finished second, to eventual champion Mike Skinner, in his
first series start on July 1, 1995 at The Milwaukee Mile ... Setzer formerly
competed in the NASCAR Busch Series, where he's won two races and a Bud
Pole and more than $700,000 ... his first Busch win came in 1994 at South
Boston (VA) Speedway ... he won in the same year at Hickory (NC) Motor
Speedway.
