Carlos Contreras became first Mexico-born driver to
start a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race when
he took the green flag in the 1999 finale at California
Speedway ... he finished 14th, the most recent
foreign-born competitor to finish on the lead lap of a
series race ... Contreras is a two-time Mustang Cup
champion in his homeland, competing mostly on
road courses ... he also has driven in the
single-seat, Formula 3 Series ... in 2000, Contreras
will drive a third Dodge Ram out of the Impact
Motorsports stable with backing from Mattel's Hot
Wheels international division.
