| For the first time in the history of independent Singapore, the new notes will bear a portrait, hence they are aptly called the Portrait Notes. The choice to feature Encik Yusof bin Ishak on the front of the Portrait Notes is indeed a befitting honour for Singapore's First President whose aspirations had helped inspire the nation to be what it is today. The Portrait Series has the objective of introduced the latest security feature and applying state-of-the-art printing technology into the new notes. To cope with an environment that is becoming increasingly automated, the Portrait Notes will be equipped with the latest machine-readable features. Practicalites such as denomination structure, aesthetics and recognisability including note colour, have also been considered. | ||||||||||||||
