| Liechtenstein is one of the smallest independent countries in the world having an area of only 61 square miles. It is situated in the Alps between Austria on the east and Switzerland on the west and south. The Liechtenstein family of Austria acquired Liechtenstein in 1719 before that it was a fuedal territory within the Holy Roman Empire. |
