Day fifteen: Strasbourg   april 30 2003

We went to Strasbourg [again] today! It's a really nice town. Or the section we saw was. There's a river running through it that kinda reminded me of la Seine.. it was pretty. We went to the Musee Alsacien, which had old antiques in it. The things I remember are a wedding dress, a glass display, a doll's room display, an apothecary room, and wierd masks along the walls. But it was interesting. Self guided with the help of rope and arrows. Very cool. After the museum, we went to our meeting point [well we did this before but it's confusing to explain], which is this really cool church that stands really high. We shopped along the street right next to the church, it had touristy shops. We got lunch; pizza and peach ice tea, then a chocolate and banana crepe. Still not as good as the first one, but decent.
After lunch, we shopped some more. I found a shirt that I really liked, but it was near 40E, and I'm not that rich. It was really nice though. Oh well. Too late now. At one thirty, we had to head back to the church because some of our partners were meeting up with us to go shopping. I didn't even know that they were coming; Shannon's partner came but not mine. I didn't expect her to come considering I didn't know she could. Marie went off to shop with her friends, Lisa with her partner, so it was just me and Shannon for once. Yay! We followed Mark with a couple of others to go find Intersport to see if Shannon could find something for her brother to buy. We found really nice rugby jersey's, but they were 70E, so we didn't get one. She decided on a rugby ball for her brother. I thought that it was a pretty good gift. We wandered along, looking at other stores, and I got my brother Tony a giant France flag. And a shotglass. I thought he would like that. We bought other souvenirs, and I saw really nice swords in a couple of shops. I wanted to buy a sword shaped letter opener, but I thought that they might take that away at customs, so I didn't. After shopping we all coagulated together [see Murray is affecting my speech] and got back on the buses and went home.
After dinner, Olivier [one of Audes friends I had come to know] picked us up because Aude isn't 18 yet, and drove us to Jo's uncle's house. There we watched the football game between France and Egypt. We won 5-0. Then we watched some talk show in french. I didn't even noticed it was in french; I guess I'm getting used to the whole non use of english except when with people on our trip. At midnight, we went to another one of Aude's friend's house because he turned 18 at midnight, and so some of his friends dressed up in plaid and christmas hats, carried picks and shovels and an axe, and went to his house and sang the hi ho song off of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Only there were only four of them, and the song was in french. It was really funny! Then we dragged him away to the discotheque.
Isabella didn't want us to go to the discotheque because she thought that Aude wanted to go, but not I, but I did want to go. Shannon and I were determined to go to the discotheque in France. It's a must. Almost everyone, if not everyone, went. It was crazy inside, all these lights flashing around, and everyone dancing. It was awesome. Even better than I had pictured it. They played a lot of english songs, and some really cool french ones as well. It was fun though because most of the people there were us, and our partners. The other people were scary drunks, so we just stayed away from anyone we didn't know.
Shannon and I had a blast dancing to songs we even knew! It was like a glorified school dance, but better because of the lights flashing and the music and the friends. It was great. A bunch of people we knew danced on the speakers. All in all, a good evening.
