Before I even came to Karlsruhe, my first trip was to visit my friend Todd in Interlaken, Switzerland. I stayed there from August 21st to August 26th. While I was there I also met some other Canadians working in Interlaken.

Todd and I did two hiking trips during this time using Todd's new tent which I had brought with me from Canada. The first trip started on August 22nd in Wilderswil at an elevation of 584 m. We hiked for about 3.5 hours to Schynige Platte (1967 m). On the way we passed many cows (Todd is in the picture).

We camped overnight and hiked back down the next day. Here is the view from Schynige Platte.

On August 24th we started our second trip in Stechelberg at 922 m. We hiked for nearly seven hours to reach the peak of the Schilthorn (2971 m). There was still snow, in August, for the last 400 vertical m. Here Todd is standing next to about 2 m of snow!

Just a few hundred metres before the summit, the path led us by a high, steep cliff. A rather appropriate sign is used to warn hikers (and skiiers in the winter) of the long drop. Where I am standing, I have about another foot of space where I can step back before falling at least 200 m.

Here you can see the new tent in use near the top (the Schilthorn can be seen in the background).

All around us were many sheep.

We also had an amazing view of the most well-known peaks in the region, the Eiger (3970 m), the Moench (4099 m), and the Jungfrau (4158 m), which appear in that order from left to right.
