                                  The famous Trojan pottery comes from the town of Trojan-
                                 (Bulgarian Region), 160 km north-east of the capital Sofia.
                                Situated on the bank of river Beli Osam at the foot of the Balkan
                              mountains, surounded by majestic scenery, there stands Trojan, a
                             town with strong and distinctive persionality , moulded by history,
                                climate and topography. The ingenious, bright and restless spirit of
                                the Trojan people has always been the main stumulant of the
                                region's continuous progress. These people with skilful hands and
                               creative ideas have made this town an important and impressive
                              industrial and cultural center. History, myth and legend are
                         interwoven to produce a unique cultural tapestry that is at once
Trojan's past and present.

The Museum of Folk Crafts and Applied Arts in Trojan is unique to the country - this is the only museum surveying and axhibiting the development of the Arts and Crafts.
There are rich collections of ceramics, artisti c woodworking, woodcarving, iconography, artistic metal work, folk costumes and textiles. In the museum one can find alot of information about the local history, culture and way of life.

Another famous exhibit in the area is the Trojan Monastery, the third largest and among the most celebrated Christian monuments in Bulgaria. The monastery is 10 km southeast of Trojan and was founded around the 1600. An assumption church was built inside the monastery only in 6 months witht the help of donations and the assistance of the local people. The monastery is famous for its miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary called "The Three-handed". The Trojan Monastery was a famous literary center and contributed in the publishing of many books. Today it is a valuable library and it is preserved as a museum.

The town treasures and develops its centuries old cultural traditions, which are a supreme emanation of the people of Trojan, of their creative aspiration and achievements. This reflects in the  pottery of the region which has been famous for centuries and is still alive- preserving the methods and motifs of the past, the Trojan Pottery is one of the most exotic and durable ceramic artwork ever handcrafted.
