IF I BECOME A GRADUATE

 

Any student who is seriously considering involvement in the Lord’s ministry will have many dreams. You may be one such student longing for the moment when your dreams come true.

When you pass out of the campus, as a young graduate with all the skills you have developed in your student days and the desire to burn out for Christ, there are ample opportunities available before you. But before looking into the opportunities, it will be worthwhile to be aware of the transformation that takes place in you when you become a graduate.

i) Decision-making is mostly by parents. Your desires are considered.

ii) Society helps / motivates you to grow.

iii) Lot of pressures and privileges.

iv) Graduates nurture you.

 

 

i) You have to take decisions. Parents / friends can only counsel.

ii) Society demands / expects from you.

iii) Privileges become pressures, pressures become privileges.

iv) Graduates time spend on you gets reduced. You are expected to nurture others.

 

Life as a young graduate.

There will be lot of pressures

  • Choice of a career

  • Choosing a life partner

You have to make many decisions

  • the decisions will have long term implications

  • the decisions will shape your future

  • many decisions will be often costly

  • some decisions may be irreversible

You need information and counsel for taking decisions

 

Information sources

  • people who have interest in the line

  • conferences / seminars/ workshops in your areas of interest

  • books / journals / magazines in your area of interest

Wisdom

  • look for wisdom from above

  • counsel of seniors will be of help

Some useful tips

  • it is always better to choose a career that suits the ministry you involve

  • it is better to locate your residence in your mission field.         

  • finding a life partner who has similar visions will of great help

How to start

  • Prayerfully find God’s plan for your life.

  • Don’t think that God always reveals His will by miraculous signs and visions.

  • Don’t expect that God will provide a blue print of your life and your business is only to execute it.     

  • Seize the opportunities available before you.

  • Start developing skills that’ll find application when you actively involve in ministry.

  • You may get in touch with people who are already executing similar visions.

  • Keep yourself abreast of the developments in missions in India and around the world.

  • Scripting your mission statement will be of great help.

Expected surprises / problems:

  • Waiting period

  • Comparison with other friends

  • Scolding from family

  • Church and society

  • Pressures in life for newly weds

  • Financial difficulties

  • Difficulties from family if you are a convert.

  • Pressures from your office.

  • Business in life – missing Quiet Time and prayer

You are expected to

  • To be a member of a Church..

  • To profess Christ in your work spot..

  • To attend weekly EGF meeting.

  • To visit an EU cell of your choice in consultation with the Local EGF.

  • To participate in dawn prayer / micro prayer cell / monthly fasting prayer.

To Keep in mind

  • A graduate who does not nourishes in fellowship with God withers easily.

  • Ministry involvement should not belittle your responsibilities in your family.

  • Many of those who waited for a job to start involving in the ministries or to support the ministries haven’t turned up!

Graduates role in EU ministry

Since just off the college, you’ll have better idea of the students’ trends and sentiments. Your inputs will be valued high in EU ministry.

 

Avenues for involvement

  • You can motivate students in a school / college / locality to start a prayer cell.

  • You can nurture a few students, addressing their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

  • You can take responsibility as the senior advisor

  • You can be a part of local / District / Regional committees.

Remember!

  • Being is more important than doing!

  • Faithfulness is more important than success!
