Winter was coming and it was time for the long journey for the Mammoths. There was a new baby Mammoth and it will be its first time to travel across the snowy, cold land. He needed all the food he could get before it was time to leave. This baby Mammoth needed to get across the harsh landscape because when he was fully grown he would take the place of leader of the herd.
He belonged to a devoted mother called Syna and the current leader of the herd was Syna mother, Allias. THe herd started early because the snow started to fall earlier than usuall. But as they left too early the vicious Saber-Tooths would tear them apart! They were traveling for a few days and they encountered a pack of wolves. The wolves were determined to get the baby Mammoth that was encircled in the center of the defending Mammoths. Allias lifted her trunk and with one swipe killed two of the seven wolves! The others left cowardly. Syna's baby was getting tired and couldn't keep up eith the herd and she wouldn't leave him. Two other older females were also tiring out. They slowly drifted away from the fast moving herd until they were out of sight. With only three Mammoths to protect the baby they would have to try and keep unnoticed. They get going. One of the Mmmoths collapsed. The other would not leave it. Syna could get the scent of the Saber-Tooth and left quickly, her baby following.The two were traveling slowly until they came to a mound. It wasn't a mound it was the remains of Syna's sister. She had been killed by a Saber-Tooth. Syna moved even faster and the baby followed. Three weeks on and they came into a clearing. The sun was up and the snow was gone. They had made it:) The other members of the herd welcomed them and the baby Mammoth was overjoyed. The other two older Mammoths that seperated from Syna were never seen again. The journey back wasn't going to be easy as the herd had gotten smaller, but the Mammoths were happy that they made it. |
