SUMMARY OF THE YEAR’S ACTIVITIES

 

HOUSING

Provided quality low cost housing for the residents of Akron, Alliance, Campbell, Cleveland, Massillon, and Ravenna, Ohio, as well as a shared living facility in Stow, Ohio. We also manage 110 units in Chicago, Illinois for National Fraternity plus new housing units in Warren, Wooster and Stow.

CONGREGATE HOUSING SERVICES

A traveling pharmacy, recreational activities and many supportive services are provided. Meals are delivered to the three (3) Akron high-rises, for the seniors and/or handicapped residents of Alpha Phi Alpha Homes, Inc. to enjoy.

UNITED NEGRO COLLEGE FUND

This Chapter raises funds at U.N.C.F. Sponsored Events.

 

SCHOLARSHIP & MARTIN O. CHAPMAN AWARDS

The Alpha Scholarship & Martin O. Chapman Awards are presented to fifteen (15) high school students and a total over $250,000.00 in scholarships. The awards have been awarded to the new and continuing students attending numerous colleges and universities throughout America.

GREEKADEMIC CHALLENGE

This past January Eta Tau Lambda Chapter started its 1st Annual Greekademic Challenge which was a game show type event with participating local fraternities and sororities. This event raised funds for the benefit of UNCF and the Kym Sellers Foundation for Multiple Sclerosis.

ANNUAL RETREAT

The Brothers hear the latest reports on housing and human services programs that have gone on during that year. Annual Retreats are held at the Maumee Bay State Park and afterwards the Brothers enjoyed the fellowship of their families and their peers.

SANTA PROGRAM

Santa, as portrayed by a Brother, visited many Day Care Centers, Churches and Libraries. All the youngsters enjoyed their visit with Santa.

ANNUAL HOLIDAY FORMAL DANCE

The Fraternity sponsors this elegant affair each year and invites the Akron Community to share in it during the Christmas season.

PROJECT ALPHA

This is a National Alpha Program geared towards direct interaction between the Brothers of Eta Tau Lambda Chapter and the Akron Area young men. During these sessions the Brothers discuss drugs and alcohol abuse, goal setting, life values, the law and sex and love. We have interacted with over 600 young Akron Area men since the program began.

MIDWEST LEADERSHIP & CITIZENSHIP DEVELOPMENT INSTITUTE

The Brothers of Eta Tau Lambda Chapter have participated in the institute for the past 9 years. The program stresses leadership, goal setting and citizenship for our youth of the community.
