In the Spring of 2003, with mortgage rates at an all time low, we started thinking, in a very general sort of way, about buying a house. We weren't in a big hurry, and we weren't interested in building something new. We wanted something in an established neighborhood with mature trees, in a small community, but most importantly, we wanted to find an older home with lots of character. We figured we'd just bide our time and keep our eyes open 'til the right place came along. One Sunday afternoon we went for a drive; we just happened upon this place and noticed the "For Sale" sign. Though neither of us spoke it, I think we had both kind of made up our minds that this was OUR house, and if the inside was anything short of being totally trashed, we were going to buy it. Well, we finally got our first look inside, and all we could say was "Wow!"

This Jotul gas fireplace stands in the corner of the great room. There are lights installed behind the stained glass panels above. You can't see it in this shot since it's hidden behind the stovepipe, but there's a small stained glass window, also lighted from behind, recessed into the stonework behind the fireplace.

Office This is the room we've designated as our office. This shot shows only the upper tier, but just behind the camera's view is about a 6" step up. This is where the choir would stand during services. The door on the far end leads into the kitchen.
This is our kitchen . . . the pine cabinets were all built by the former owner. We hope to remodel some day, to add a center island, but it won't be for a few years yet.

Lilies Here are a couple of pictures of the dining room. The lilies you see are from our back garden.
The cat likes it, too. And yes, the table really does seem high . . . it's a counter height set, and it looks like it could have been designed just for this room.
