Born in the city of Treno "City of eternal night". Her mother, a prostitute in the dark city, kept her hidden in the house for a year but at her 1 year birthday her mother was already so sick from cancer that she arranged an escort out from the town down to the city of Lindblum. Her mother died shortly after arriving to Lindblum leaving a child at the age of 1 year alone on the street.
A kind hearted old couple, Roarke and Dalia, took care of the little child, gave her the name Iona (which means "From the kings island").
Iona grew up to be a pretty lady, skilled in music and entertaining. Dalia passed away out of old age when Iona was 18. At that time Roarke was mostly laying in bed unable to move any long distances. Iona stopped her education and started working as an entertainer. With the little money she earned she bought food and took care of Rourke. 2 years later Roarke passed away aswell. The death of Rourke was hard on Iona who was now on her own.
