Full Moon wo Sagashite, translated as Searching for The Full Moon, is a story about Kouyama Mitsuki, a 12-year-old girl with a dream to become a singer. Not only is it her dream, but she also made a promise with a childhood friend, Eichi, when she was 10. Unfortunately, its not that easy. 12-year-olds can't audition to be singers, and Mitsuki, being an orphan, lives with her grandmother, who absolutely hates music. So Mitsuki is not allowed to listen to music, let alone sing at all. The worst part is...she has throat cancer. But still, Mituski refuses to have surgery, as she knows this will cause her vocal cords to be removed, so she'll never be able to speak, or sing again.

One day, while thinking about Eichi in her room, a hand pops out of her poster. Startled, she backs away, as a strangely dressed guy, who looks about 16, pulls himself out throgh the wall. He wears cat ears, a tail, and a backpack with wings on it. Right after him comes another strangely dressed girl, who's pink haired, and has bunny ears,a bunny tail, and wings. Startled, she asks them who they are. They get really surprised that she can see them, and after some confusion, they introduce themselves as the two Shinigami(Gods of Death), Takuto and Meroko. And they accidently let it slip that Mitsuki's going to die in one year.

Now, even more determined, Mitsuki runs away and tries to get into the building where the audition being held. The Shinigami catch up to her and ask her why doesn't she just go from the main door. She says only 16-year-olds are allowed to audition, but she really wants to, and that its the most important goal she needs to do. If shes going to die in one year, she just has to audition, if she fails, she'll just listen to them and go back home. The boy shinigami, Takuto, feels sorry for her so he produces a sword. He cuts himself, and then gives her a drop of his blood. When she takes it, she is able to transform into a healthy 16-year-old without throat cancer. She thanks Takuto, and goes to audition. Naturally, she wins, and now she's a singer. Now, with the help of Takuto and Meroko, she can work even harder on her dream, in hope of one day being reunited with Eichi.
