Shadow Haven

Turning My Beloved
by April Diaz

I come in through the window,
Out of the wintry air.
You lie deep in dream.
I savour the scent of your blood.
I feel it pulsating through your veins,
Smell it through your skin.
My lips hover over your mortal face,
So warm, so beautiful.

I gently press my pale fingertips on your hot flesh,
I feel your heart in its slow steady rhythm.
You shiver as I move my hand over you.
Your bronze chest, so strong,
Shoulders broad,
Arms powerful.

Though not powerful enough.
You are not as swift and strong as I.
 Do not worry my beloved,
You will be.

I kiss your soft pink lips,
Slipping with you under the silken covers.
You wake from the embrace of my snow-filled jacket.
Lashes fluttering,
Squinting in the dark,
Green Irises tracing my shape.
You kiss me,
Then smile.

“Good evening, my love” you whisper
I lift you in my arms.
I tell you it is time,
You bow your head in a nod.
I breathe my cold breath over your lips,
over your cheek,
Over your ear,
Then your neck.

You shiver once again,
Your strong arms come round my waist.
I stare at the thick vein,
Pulsing on your neck.
I lick the warm blue bulge,
And kiss it tenderly.

“How much do you love me?”
I whisper under my breath.
I’m intoxicated with the smell of your mortal blood.
You answer “More than the waking world!”
“How much do you want me, Need me?”
“Need and want you more than my soul!”
“More than the pearly round monstrosity of the day?”
“Yes you answer in desperation.

Your skin is growing hotter.
I feel the pressure of your sex,
It stiffens,
Pressed against my body.
I close my eyes,
And fell the heat of your blush.

I sink my white fangs into your neck.
You flinch.
Your arms go limp,
They fall to your side.
The swoon begins,
As I suckle at the ripped vein.
Your breaths are slow and deep,
Your green eyes half covered by your lids.

I pleasure your crimson elixir,
Feeling its hot sweetness flow down my throat.
Stroking your thick golden curls,
Your body stiffens.
Then goes limp,
More limp than when we began.

With one last gulp I feel the high.
The colour rushes to my face.
I seem mortal for a moment,
Then I remove my fangs from your flesh.

I put my head on your chest,
Your heart beats so slow.
With my sharp nails I break the skin on my neck.
I draw you to the hot gush of blood.
Your lips enclose over the wound,
And you  draw in what I had taken from you.

My head swims.
I feel myself fly.
Now it is my turn to feel it,
To experience a different high.
I press my lips over your neck,
And find the wounds I had made before.
The scarlet milk flows again.
We both share the ecstasy.

In the darkness we die,
Then are reborn again,
In each other’s arms.
The union goes on and on.
We take what we need,
Then give it back again.

Away from each other’s arms we stare a moment,
Looking into each other’s dark portals.
I smile at your soul,
and you smile at me.
The swoon is fading.
Our breaths have calmed.
He is now born into Immortal Darkness,
He is now forever mine. I think.

The bronze of your skin is now dulled,
Your nails have become sharp like glass (though not long)
Teeth are pointed,
Flesh is cold.
You kiss my lips,
I take your hand and lead you to the window.
The sky is no longer black,
It is blue, dark blue.

“Come my husband. Day arrives, let us fly.”
You step up onto the ledge with me.
Then as if a swift wind carries us,
I lead you to the skies.

The snow is falling softly,
From small wispy grey clouds.
Stars are disappearing,
The early busstle of a new day is heard.
Clear to our ears and our eyes

The quest for mortal blood isn’t far,
I will show you how to kill.
Merciless death, we are,
And you will learn the wisdom of years, and more.
You are under my wing now, Beloved.
Eternity is finally yours.
