Today in America
|
March 22nd
On this day in 1622, the Pamunkey Indians
located near the colony of Jamestown, Virgina lulled their english neighbors
into a false sense of security by offering friend relations and gifts of
food. The Pamunkey Indians lead by the tribal cheif Opechancanough
participated in what was the first major attack by Native Americans against
english settlers using guerilla warfare resulting in the deaths of over
500 settlers on the first day of the attack and starting a 14 year war
with Jamestown, Virgina.
