The Perfect Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwich

It is something we do hundreds of times in our lifetime, something that is vital to

our survival.  Something so important, something so simple, you would think it would be

something that you should know how to do with absolute perfection.  The making of the

peanut butter and jelly sandwich is not a simple task to be accomplished while talking on

the phone about the strange guy you know that wears turtle necks and sings strange songs

while he waits to be picked up.  It is an art form that requires tools and preparation.

Didnt think it was so involved did you.  Most often a PB&J sandwich will be quite

grotesque and mushy.  But if you take all the right precautions and step in preparation you

cannot fail.  Preparation is the most simple of all the tasks but also is one of the most

important.  You cant just have your bread, jelly and peanut butter be the local Foodland

brand that is so long outdated your dead grandma could have claimed ownership.  Only

the best supplies will guarantee full satisfaction with your lunch delight.  For the three

ingredients may I suggest a Roman Meal Honey Top Split, then for the jelly and peanut

butter if possible go with anything that has something to do with a Disney movie.  Most

probably this will only be possible with the peanut butter using the infamous Peter Pan

brand.  Then of course would someone please pass the jelly oh wait no I mean oops too

late grandma already fainted its not jelly its Polaner all Fruit and its the best money can

buy as far as your PB&J is concerned.  Once you have all these choice ingredients go to

your closest countertop with articles of food in hand and begin the breathtaking process.

Simply take the two slices of bread in the loaf do NOT approximate this is something you

are about to eat not something you are feeding to your neighbors dog.  Take them and lay

them flat on the clean dry non soapy countertop.  Simply take out a 6 inch stainless steel

knife and begin spreading, jelly first, smooth and soft not to much not to little once you

have applied it stare at it from the side to see if it is level if not then by all means straighten

it out.  Next obviously comes the Peanut Butter the meat of the sandwich.  This is what

you must spread with the most care.  First run your knife under hot water so as you spread

it smoothes the surface of the butter.  Spread it soft and even and make sure not to over

do it.  Now we are heading into the final stages of the process.  Now with the greatest

possible ease place one of the sides of bread on top of the other preferably the peanut

butter side as the jelly is likely to drip if faced downwards.  Once they are firmly stuck

together take a knife ( the sharpest available ) and cut it into sections according to your

preference the most renowned cutting style is the diagonal cutting method where you

simply sliced from one corner to the other on the bread.  Now your sandwich delight is

finished if you wish it may be kept in the refrigerator for later consumption but this

delicacy is best eaten fresh.
