Terra Branford

Terra Branford, also know as Tina Branford in the Japanese version of the game, is the main character of Final Fantasy VI.

Magic power had parted from the present world and from that world was born a woman with the ability to use such powers and it baffled many. In order for the Empire to use her, Kefka ceased all of her conscious thoughts with the Slave Crown, and she was then used as a secret weapon. Her way of thinking towards other people changed afterwards and the truth in her heart worried her. She is a person who always thinks ill of herself and worries about her differences between herself and "normal girls". Invited to join by Locke and the others, she stood up as a member of the anti-Empire organization; the Returners.

Terra's Past

Terra has a complex past of use and abuse. She was born, and "raised" in the Esper world. Madonna, her mother, had accidentally wandered into a cave and found herself in the doorway to the Esper realm. Maduin, a great strong beast like humanoid Esper, was the only Esper who welcomed her in. The others insulted her and accused her of being a spy. Madonna was about to leave but Maduin convinced her to stay... "Humans and Espers can't live together..." "How do we know... unless we observe for ourselves?" Madonna lived with Maduin from then on for about 2 years in the Esper world and had given birth to a child, which they both named "Terra". At about that time, Emperor Gestahl had finally found the entrance to the Esper world, which he and countless other power-hungry humans had sought after, and was planning to steal the Espers there and "study" them. When the Espers realized what the humans outside their gate were planning they decided it would be best to close it permanently. Most Espers accused Madonna of leading the humans to their home and she became very upset about it and tried to leave. Maduin convinced Madonna that she didn't have to go back and could live her life peacefully with him but it was too late. Before the gate was closed, over 10 Espers were caught by Gestahl and his troops and the gate had been shut. Gestahl finds Madonna, Maduin and Terra outside the gate and takes Terra and Maduin.
Maduin is put in the Magitek Research Facility, while Terra is raised by the Empire. Not much is known about Terra when she was growing up. In flashbacks she is shown with Kefka. Kefka placing the Slave Crown on her head, Kefka ordering Terra to fry hapless Empirial soldiers in her Magitek Armor, and cheering for Emperor Gestahl after he makes a grand speech to his troops. It is not clear as to who or how Terra was actually raised or how her relationship with Kefka, Gestahl, Leo or Celes was, Leo admits to acknowledging what was happening with her but Celes acts as if they've never even laid eyes on each other before, but you can tell that Terra trusted Kefka to some extent. She sat there and let him put the Crown on her. She may have also been told by someone she actually trusted to go with Kefka but the story of the game does not go into Terra growing up in Vector whatsoever. Gestahl barely reacts to her, as does Kefka, when you meet for the banquet. If anything could be improved about this game, it's Terra's story. It is one of the most developed character story in the game, but many of them could be improved upon.
Terra was trained to use Magitek Armor, and nifty armor at that, and undoubtedly her magic (even though that is never shown), and because of this, her job class is Magitek Knight. She was sent to Narshe, by Kefka and Gestahl, to retrieve the rumored "Frozen Esper" found in a new mine shaft there. Incapable of thinking for herself because of the Slave Crown, Officers Vicks and Wedge were sent with her. They met with a few Narshe troops trying to stop Vicks, Wedge and Terra but they proved simple to destroy, given the fact that the Empirial soldiers are armed with Magic blasting machines and the peasant soldiers couldn't possibly be armed with more than a Mithril sword and cloth armor. Upon reaching the Frozen Esper, proving the rumor was true, it began to glow eerily and Vicks and Wedge simply vanished into thin air. Terra however, instinctivly walked up to it and the Esper began to... react with her. She is the knocked unconscious by its magic blast and wakes up in a strange place with a strange aged man named Arvis, and that's where the story takes off.

Terra and the concept of love

Terra is a woman who fears people and simply doesn't like herself. She knows that she is different right from the start, without any help from Edgar or Locke when they learn Terra can actually use magic. "I suppose a normal girl would have found him dashing, but I'm hardly... normal." She starts to question love and how it could apply to her when she meets Edgar, who shamelessly hits on her. Luckily, Locke keeps him in check but that's another subject. -_^
She asks everyone she can about it: Celes, who brushes her off. General Leo, who tells her that she will find love someday, he just can't help her, and Shadow, who reveals that he's destroyed his emotions and can't/refuses to help her. She finds an emotion of love with children, which helps define her caring and nurturing nature indefinitely, however, a lover never enters Terra's life as far as the game is concerned. Possible love intrests within the party aren't many. Edgar seems to have given up on the idea of courting her, as he has ceased to hit on her since Locke yelled "And do not let a lecherous young King, who shall be left unnamed, near you!". General Leo, who showed compassion for Terra, has died at the cruel hands of Kefka. Locke seems to be firmly paired up with Celes and Terra doesn't show much intrest in Sabin. In fact, the only thing I can think of them interacting is "Younger Brother? At first glance, I thought he was a bodybuilder who had strayed from his gym." "(Sabin laughs) I'll take that as a compliment!". If Terra ever found love it would most likely be with someone outside of the party. And if it were with someone within the party it would have to be with Edgar or Locke. But it's made perfectly clear that Celes greatly desires Locke and Locke has feelings towards Celes, and there is no further interaction between Terra and Edgar after the incident at the Returner's Hideout. Although... "Queen Terra of Figaro" has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

My Terra

If you saw my Gaian avatar, you're prolly wondering why the hair is light gray blue instead of green or at least yellow/blonde. Originally I was going to pick the green hair but when I previewed it , it just seemed too dark and ... green. I never wanted my Terra to be a blonde, cause I never say her like that even tho I worshiped AmanoSama's drawings. Her hair, to me, was light green, a pale pastel kind of green, but that wasn't available, so I went with the color that matched best, light grashish blue. I'm very happy with it, as it says "Terra" to me much more than any of the other colors did. And I liked the blue color I just didn't know why.
Recently I found the trading card images that squaresoft released in Japan after the game came out. In the first one (card images can be viewed to the upper right corner of the page) her hair is obviously green, but in the rest it's blue. The exact same color blue as the color I picked for my avatar. I've never even seen those cards before, except the image on the first one, but that's still green.
As for the anti-skirt/dress, I don't like dresses, they're uncomfortable to me. I like Terra's clothes according to her sprite much more than Sqaures lame attempt at the chracter models (Terra and Celes have the exact same model. There is no facial difference between them and it's incredibly stuppid and kind of insulting to fans. Terra has a bit bigger cheeks than that and a longer more slender neck. Celes is flat (go look at AmanoSama's drawings) and is "pointy". She has a pointy chin, hih cheekbones, small pointy breasts, pointed nose, thin slender fingers ect. This was of couse made to make her appear more cold. She's still beautiful but AmanoSama did an excelent job with it. Oh! Of the subject...). Terra should not wear a dress. Period. Well, as far as I'm concerned anyway. The closes thing I could get to her sprite outfit is the red one-piece bathing suit. If they had strapless red one-piece bathing suits I'd be set, but they don't, so it sucks. XP
There isn't much of a point to this section, I just know that people are wondering why the hell I picked blue when her hair isn't blue and why I put her in that outfit when it's clear according to some of AmanoSama's drawings (her sashes cover up most of her abdomen most of the time and one image, Terra10.bmp, kinda looks like she's wearing short blue jean shorts) and in Square's CG FMVs that she's wearing a skirt.

Equipment Ideas

Because Terra is slightly lacking in physical strength you could use the following:
Right Hand: Drainer
Left Hand: Soul Sabre
Relic 1: Genji Glove
Relic 2: *
*The 2nd relic is up to you. You could either use an Offering to make her nearly invincible (as long as she attacks) or you could give her the Gem Box. This may not be a very good combo because the weapons are so weak, but it's a reason to not wager or sell them. -_^

Right Hand: Scimitar
Left Hand: Scimitar
Relic 1: Genji Glove
Relic 2: Offering
This is my Uber Terra of Doom. Slice and Dicer.

(The below information is not complete yet. I'm really sorry. It should be finished (for FFTactics anyway) in one week at least. Once again, sorry!)

Creating a "Terra Branford" in a customizable RPG

Ever wondered how to make a character you really loved in a game in which they didn't belong? Well, I've done or tried to do it in a few games. Customizable games such as tactics games or others such as FFV or even Dynasty Warriors, are perfect for inserting your favorite character, in this case Terra!

Final Fantast Tactics

Creating Terra in FFTactics is actually fairly easy, it just takes a bit of work, but then, what character in this game doesn't?
In a town, there is always a Soldier's Office. There you can recruit soldiers to join your troops. You MUST pay attention to Brave and Faith! If brave is too low your character will not be able to deal much damage to even a weak creature, but if your Faith is too low you will not be healed as much by spells and will not make even a decent spell caster. The only good thing about having low faith is if you want your team to use nothing but items or maybe Punch Art skills (Monk). Terra should have a faith of 65 or higher. Depending on how you view her as a physical fighter, you can choose whether or not to be picky about her Brave.
If you want a genuine Terra, try to make sure that the female soldier you hire is a Libra, as that is Terra's astrological sign. I got extremely lucky with my Terra. I got a 70 Brave 70 Faith Libra female soldier. As far as I'm concerned, Terra is both uber in magic and swordplay ^_^, so woots for Terra! lol
The next thing you have to worry about is job class training. I suggest training her in Squire untill she has Throw Stone, Accumulate, Move+1, Gained JP Up and Counter Tackle. It would be wise to get Gained JP Up and keep it there for quite some time.
After she has gotten these skills change her job class to Chemist. Wether you choose to use items or not is entirely up to you, I perfer not to use them at all since Monk (Monk) and Priest (White Mage) spells tend to work better. Train her as a Chemist at least until she is level 2. When that is done you can change her into a Priest (White Mage) or a Wizard (Black Mage). Change her into a Priest, give her any Priest abilites she can learn, and make her second ability Basic Skill. If she's low level or weak you can have her sit in a corner and Accumulate to gain experience and job points without getting into danger. You can also throw rocks at far away monsters or party members (try to hit your strongest and most able when doing this, hit a weak party member and you're just screwing yourself) which will give you more EXP and JP. Why do you make her a Priest? Priests may be weak but they can cast healing spells on other party members or themselves when they need it, *also* Priests get a +1 bonus to their unalterable Magic Attack rating every few levels. THIS IS A GOOD THING!! The only way to alter your Magic Attack or Physical Attack is through very expensive weapons, armor and assecories.
