| I woke up beside a small fire, burning merrily admist some cracking dry logs. Those whom I call my mortal companions were gathered around the fire, playing cards. Alcohol flowed freely down their throats and the silence of the night was shattered by outburst of laughter, a proof of their merry making. "Hey look the sun went down and the vamp woke up. Three cheers for the rose.!" shouted a nameless entity. Didn't matter though. What had been said was true. I had slept the afternoon away in the shade, and now I awoke as the sun dipped itself slowly in the watery horizon. I got up slowly, my leg hurting me. For a moment I couldn't register where the pain was coming from, noting that I did not remember of damaging any body parts recently. I pulled up my shorts and gazed at five angry looking scars, weeping blood. Oh. Had forgotten about those. *flash* Why always me? What did I do wrong to deserve it this time? Why is that I always have to lose. All I have is pain. Mind numbing comforting pain. A blade. The pain. The blood. *end flash* I also registered in my brain why I had declined the offer to go swimming while the sun was still up. Thank any god or devil for my sun allergy. I plastered on my face the silly grin I wore all the time and made my way towards my friends. "Wassup ppl? Missed anything?" I laughed weakly as I tried to avoid a couple of strange looks. The silence seeped like poison in a wound. It could be cut with a knife. A beetle crawled its way on a girl's lap. She screamed and a lot of slapping ensued. The silence was broken. They laughed. "I'm gonna take a quick dip. Don't drink all the stuff alone. Leave some for me," but they had already continued playing. I stripped down to my bathing suite. A simple black bikini - nothing special. Sporty and comfy. I made my way across the sand noting how dark it was. The sun had completely set, plunging the beach into pitch black. I reached the water's edge, waiting for my eyes to get accustomed to the lack of light. Then, slowly silvery beams touched the small waves tentatively, creating hues of black, silver and dark blue. I turned around and saw the bright full moon making its way up the night sky to replace the waning sun. I smiled at my luck. I turned back to face the sea and started running over the slighly submerged sand. And when the water got satisfyingly deep, I plunged head first into he waves. The sensation was incredible. The water tantalizingly warm against my skin. I rose back to the surface after a while, throwing my head back, causing the long curls to release a myriad of silvery droplets in the air. The relaxing atmosphere was broken by the burning sensation in my right tigh. My self inflicted wounds didn't seem to like the salty water. The pain came back. I bit my lip hard, trying not to gag against the bitter taste that gathered in my mouth. I choked back my sobs and pluinged back in the water. I left the dark waters take me and help me cast my mind into a comforting oblivion. But all must come to an end. I had been in the waters too long not to rouse some suspicion. With a heavy heart, I made my way back to where my freinds were gathered around the fire. I smiled at the questioning looks and proceeded in making a great deal out of drying my hair and body on a large fluffy towel. I grabbed my own whiskey flask and settled a couple of meters away from the noisy group surrounding the fire. I settled comfortably on the sand and let the tears burn a way down my sickeningly pale face. I lifted the bottle to my lips and drank greedily, savouring the flavour and enjoying the angry aftermath as the liquid burned its way from my stomach and warmed my veins. My blood screamed. My heart crumbled. I have not forgotten. I still wan to knwo why. It shall not end this way. If I must die, then you shall come with me in my grave. In death as in love. |
