Learning By Visualizing With Technology: Recording Realities With Video
It never occurs to me that television did not command the same level of interaction as computer until I read this in chapter three. As I read the chapter I began to reflect and then wondered about the reasons. The book shed insights to the lack of teacher’s preparedness. When students are not held accountable in any circumstances, they tend not to show interest, thus not making learning meaningful. Students should be guided with open-ended questions so when viewing the video they can look for the answers. Students can then take it to the next level by using other resources such as Internet, subject related books and encyclopedia to generate more responses to the critical questions asked.
I am a firm believer the most authentic learning comes from hands on. The book mentioned that students should use video for construct ions. The construction process thus engages the students in the planning, writing, visualizing, organizing and creation of projects that are meaningful. This is a true process of making learning meaningful. One key point that was stressed in the chapter was to make sure that students are involved with all aspects of the construction process. In other words all students should participate in the shooting and production of the video. I always encourage my students to help each other but stressed that helping someone does not mean taking over the computer and doing their work for them. Helping means guiding the person while they are still in control of the computer to completion of the task.
